Description

A one-month-old baby boy was diagnosed with a severe heart defect while still in the womb, leaving his mother anxious as she awaited his full-term birth. Sadly, after his birth, the diagnosis was confirmed, and the baby urgently needed life-saving surgery. Faced with the daunting RM110,000 surgery cost, the baby's parents felt utterly desperate, turning to the community for help.

"We only want our baby to grow up healthy like other children, but the doctors told us that he must undergo surgery within the first month. We are at a loss and urgently appeal for help to save our child!"

The baby's mother had gestational diabetes during pregnancy and was referred to the hospital for a detailed check-up at five months pregnant. The scan revealed that the baby’s heart vessels were transposed, and the doctors advised that treatment could only proceed after birth. This news weighed heavily on the expectant mother, who spent the remainder of her pregnancy in anxiety and fear.

After his birth in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, baby Ahmad Uthman Affan bin Azmi displayed symptoms of cyanosis and oxygen deficiency. Following a thorough examination in the ICU, doctors confirmed that he had a congenital heart defect and informed his parents that urgent surgery was necessary to save his life.

【The baby experiences rapid breathing, and he becomes breathless and cyanotic when crying or drinking milk too quickly】

When the full-term baby boy was born at 38 weeks, he exhibited cyanosis and oxygen deficiency, prompting an urgent transfer to the intensive care unit for thorough examination. Subsequently, the baby was moved to a central hospital, where further tests confirmed that he was suffering from Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). Fortunately, the presence of holes in his heart allowed for some blood flow, enabling him to breathe on his own without the need for supplemental oxygen. After four days of treatment and observation, the doctors allowed him to be discharged.

However, the doctors stressed that the baby must undergo surgery as soon as possible, with a preliminary date set for early September. Without this intervention, his life may not extend beyond his first year. Due to the severity of his condition, the doctors recommended that the baby be immediately transferred to a specialized hospital for surgical treatment. The staggering RM110,000 required for the surgery left the parents in despair, as they were unable to bear such a significant financial burden.

The father, Azmi Bin Alias (37 years old), is a sand truck driver with a monthly salary of only RM1,500, while the mother, Noor Faizah bt Mustafa (30 years old), works as a cashier at a petrol station, earning about RM2,500 per month. The couple also has two other young children, a 6-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter, who are currently cared for by their grandmother.

After a home visit and assessment, ONE HOPE CHARITY has decided to assist the baby by raising the RM110,000 needed for the surgery. The baby’s family has agreed to entrust the fundraising efforts entirely to ONE HOPE CHARITY, which will also manage the collection of donations. As an initial aid, ONE HOPE CHARITY will allocate RM10,000 from the "Emergency Medical Reserve Fund."
