Description

These two young lives have been fighting a relentless battle against illness since birth, longing for a chance at a healthy future.

One-year-old Aniq Ziqri from Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, was diagnosed with a heart defect when his mother was seven months pregnant. After birth, he was confirmed to have a hole in his heart and narrowed blood vessels. Despite his parents’ unwavering care, his condition worsened drastically at seven months old, making urgent surgery essential to save his life.

Four-month-old Muhammad Asyraf Azriel from Alor Setar, Kedah, turned blue and experienced a rapid drop in oxygen levels immediately after birth. He was diagnosed with severe congenital heart defects. Although his first surgery was successful, he later developed a bacterial lung infection, causing breathing difficulties and further deterioration. Doctors have advised clearing the infection and performing diaphragm repair surgery as soon as possible.

Both families come from modest backgrounds and cannot afford the high medical costs. They are earnestly appealing to the community for help to raise the RM 125,000 needed to mend the tiny hearts of these two boys.

【Case 1: 1-Year-Old Baby Boy with Congenital Heart Defect Requires Emergency Surgery to Save His Life】

Aniq Ziqri was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect while still in the womb, a devastating revelation that left his mother anxious throughout her pregnancy. Due to his weakened heart, doctors recommended a cesarean delivery, and the newborn was immediately placed in the intensive care unit for oxygen therapy after birth.

After four days of observation, Aniq was discharged. However, he appeared pale and was diagnosed with a hole in his heart. Doctors advised waiting until he reached a weight of 8 kilograms before undergoing surgery and prescribed regular check-ups at the pediatric cardiology clinic to manage his condition with medication.

As Aniq grew, his increasing activity levels began to strain his heart. He started experiencing rapid breathing, shortness of breath, and cyanosis (turning blue) whenever he cried. Further tests revealed worsening heart defects, including a severely blocked blood vessel leading to the lungs. Without immediate surgery, he risks blood vessel rupture or sudden respiratory failure during sleep, both of which could be fatal.

Aniq’s parents, Azzery bin Ahmad Zainudin and Siti Naqiah bt Khairuddin (34), run a small nasi lemak stall outside their home, earning approximately RM 2,000 per month. The family of three lives in a low-cost flat, struggling to make ends meet while desperately seeking help for their son’s life-saving surgery.

【Case 2: 4-Month-Old Baby Boy Faces Infection After Surgery and Requires Another Operation】

Muhammad Asyraf Azriel's pregnancy and delivery were smooth, and his family was filled with joy at the arrival of their new baby. However, just an hour after birth, the baby suddenly experienced a sharp drop in oxygen levels and was urgently transferred to the intensive care unit for oxygen therapy.

After examination, the baby was diagnosed with severe congenital heart defects, including Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), and Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). Doctors performed an arterial switch operation (ASO) to correct the defects and repair the heart holes. The surgery was successful, and the baby’s life was temporarily saved.

However, just a month after returning home, the baby began to experience rapid breathing and was readmitted to the hospital. Doctors discovered that the baby’s lungs had been infected with bacteria, leading to delayed diaphragm paralysis, which worsened the pneumonia. The baby has been hospitalized for over a month, and doctors advised that the infection must first be cleared before performing a diaphragm folding surgery to improve his condition.

Muhammad Asyraf’s parents, Azman bin Soh (55) and Azwani bt Abdullah (39), make and sell traditional cakes, earning about RM 3,500 per month. They have four children, including 7-year-old twins, a 3-year-old son, and the 4-month-old sick baby.

After reviewing the cases, ONE HOPE CHARITY has agreed to assist in raising a total of RM 125,000 for the two children's surgeries. The family has entrusted the fundraising to ONE HOPE CHARITY. ONE HOPE CHARITY will allocate RM 10,000 from the "Emergency Medical and Contingency Reserve Fund" to support the cause.
