Description

Five children from impoverished rural areas in Sarawak are suffering from congenital heart defects. With worsening conditions and the heavy financial burden of surgery, their families are unable to cope and are appealing to the public for help to raise a total of RM265,000 for life-saving heart surgeries.

These children, aged between 1 and 11, come from remote areas with limited access to healthcare. They have been diagnosed with various congenital heart conditions, including atrial septal defects and abnormal heart valve closures. Doctors have strongly recommended timely surgical intervention to avoid further damage to their heart and lung functions, which could become life-threatening.

Their parents work as odd-job laborers, factory operators, or are full-time homemakers, struggling to make ends meet. Some families do not even have their own transportation and rely on neighbors just to attend medical appointments. Facing such high medical costs, they are helpless and have no choice but to seek public assistance.

The surgeries will be conducted at the National Heart Institute (IJN). We appeal to the public to join hands in supporting these five children so they may seize this crucial opportunity for treatment and regain their health and a new lease on life.

In order to provide timely medical intervention and save their lives, One Hope Charity has decided to assist in raising the total surgery cost of RM265,000. We sincerely hope the public will come together to offer them a second chance at life.

【Case 1: Jordan (1 year old) – Enlarging atrial septal defect, repeated hospitalizations. Needs RM50,000 for surgery】
Jordan Anak Allan was diagnosed with a small hole in his heart shortly after birth. His family hoped it would close naturally, but recent examinations show the defect has grown. He is now confirmed to have an atrial septal defect (ASD).

With poor immunity, Jordan requires hospitalization almost every month. His father lost his job due to frequent leave taken to care for him, while his mother stays home to care for their four children. The family is struggling financially and still repaying the costs of the grandfather’s funeral.

【Case 2: Vervielyn (6 years old) – Valve closure abnormality and ASD. Swollen chest, urgently needs RM65,000】
Vervielyn Anak Ady was adopted by her aunt when she was 4 months old. She has always been frail, with cold hands and feet and frequent fatigue. She was diagnosed with severe ASD and abnormal valve closure, with blood backflow causing her chest to swell. Surgery is urgently needed.

Her mother is a single parent, surviving on part-time jobs and government aid with a monthly income of just RM500. They live in a wooden house with no vehicle, relying on neighbors to get to the hospital.

【Case 3: Arthur (7 years old) – Persistent ASD now affecting heart valves. Needs RM50,000 for surgery】
Arthur Erang Hendry Tajang was diagnosed with ASD shortly after birth. Doctors initially advised observation, but the defect has not improved. A recent check-up showed the condition is now affecting valve function, and further delay could endanger his life.

All pre-surgery assessments have been completed; only the surgery cost remains. His father is a mechanic earning RM2,000 monthly, while his mother is a full-time homemaker. The family of four is financially strained.

【Case 4: Aniq Razin (8 years old) – Large ASD requires open-heart surgery, RM50,000 needed】
Aniq Razin Bin Hafeezy was rushed to the NICU after birth due to lack of oxygen. Doctors later diagnosed him with ASD. His parents initially hoped the hole would close on its own, but a recent check-up in May showed it had grown larger and now requires open-heart surgery.

Aniq gets tired and breathless easily. His father works in a beverage factory earning RM2,500, the sole breadwinner for the family. His mother stays home to care for their three children. Their home is still under construction, and they cannot afford the high medical cost.

【Case 5: Qayra (11 years old) – ASD has expanded to 3.2 cm, affecting nutrition absorption. Needs RM50,000】
Qayra Shazreen Binti Mohamad Zuladharin was born prematurely, weighing just 940 grams. Three days after birth, she was diagnosed with anal atresia and had to undergo multiple major surgeries, living with a stoma bag. At age 2, she was diagnosed with ASD. A recent follow-up showed the defect had enlarged to 3.2 cm, affecting her heart function and nutrient absorption. She weighs only 16 kg.

Her mother passed away last year. Her father, who works in a logistics company, is now raising three children on his own. With limited income and the urgent need for surgery, he is physically and emotionally exhausted.

After thorough review and confirmation of the children’s medical conditions with the hospital, as well as verification of their family backgrounds and financial situations through local community leaders, One Hope Charity has resolved to raise the remaining funds for the surgeries.

An emergency fund allocation of RM15,000 will be provided from ONE HOPE CHARITY’s Emergency Medical and Contingency Reserve Fund to kickstart the campaign. For any inquiries, please contact us at: 04-539 9212, 016-4192 192, 019-2322 192, or 018-911 4192.
