Description

Barath A/L N. Sugumaran, a 30-year-old man whose life has been marked by hardship, was born with a heart defect. Through proper medical care, he managed to grow up safely, but recently his health has sharply declined, with his heart now functioning at only 40%. His doctor has advised urgent surgery, but Barath feels helpless as he still needs RM 21,090 to cover the remaining medical costs.

"Though I have no one to rely on, I am determined to support myself and avoid further burdening my relatives. I sincerely appeal to the public for help in raising the necessary medical funds!"

Barath, who is from Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, began experiencing symptoms such as shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, and insomnia last year. Recently, even simple movements have become challenging, and doctors have informed him that his heart is now functioning at just 40%. Although surgery was initially scheduled for October, it has been postponed due to financial constraints.

Previously employed as a delivery worker, Barath was forced to quit his job due to his health, and he now depends on his relatives’ support. He hopes to return to work after the surgery. The total cost of the surgery is RM 45,000, with partial support from the government, but he is still short of RM 21,090 and is desperately seeking assistance.

【Barath A/L N. Sugumaran has faced hardship from an early age. Shortly after his birth, his mother left, and his father, who struggled with mental illness, passed away last year. Raised by his grandparents, Barath lost his grandmother at age 13, and his grandfather, who suffered a debilitating stroke, passed away years later. Since then, he has lived with different relatives】

Barath suffers from a rare congenital heart defect, including Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries (CCTGA) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). His heart function was already compromised to 60%, and he has received ongoing treatment at the National Heart Institute. He had a pacemaker implanted at age 7, with a battery replacement at 28, and requires regular follow-ups.

As a delivery worker, Barath’s job involved lifting heavy items and climbing stairs. Two years ago, he began experiencing severe shortness of breath and could only rest in a reclining position due to his condition. His worsening health forced him to leave his job, and he also lost his car to bank repossession when he could no longer make payments.

During a recent medical review, doctors found that his heart is now functioning at only 40%, with valve leakage and signs of heart failure, requiring immediate surgery. The surgery was scheduled for early October, but due to financial constraints, it had to be postponed. Although he received partial government assistance, he still needs RM 21,090 to cover the remaining costs.

Barath, who left school in Form 3, has worked various jobs, from fast-food service to valet supervisor, and eventually as a delivery worker, earning RM 2,500 monthly. Sadly, he had to resign due to his worsening health. His former employer offered him light packaging work with a small monthly income of RM 200, but he had to stop even that in September due to his health. Now, he relies on his aunt, a cleaner, for basic support.

Despite his difficult circumstances, Barath remains resilient and self-sufficient. After a home assessment, One Hope Charity has taken up his case to raise the RM 21,090 needed for his surgery and will oversee the fundraising.
