Urgent Fundraising – Chan Yu Xuan (Cochlear Implant)

Description
"Her childhood has been spent in silence. All we want is for her to hear us say, 'We love you.' Life is tough, but we refuse to give up any chance to change her future."
Six-year-old Chan Yu Xuan from Johor is a cheerful and lively girl. Despite wearing a hearing aid, she still struggles to hear what others are saying and cannot speak in a way that others can understand. Born with severe hearing loss, she has lived in an almost soundless world since birth. Doctors discovered her condition after noticing irregularities in her hearing responses — only extremely loud sounds, such as the roar of a jet engine, can slightly stimulate her auditory nerves.
Yu Xuan has been trying to connect with the world through faint sounds, while her parents have spent years seeking medical help at hospitals across the country. Sadly, the results have been minimal. Now, doctors recommend urgent cochlear implant surgery as the best solution to help her truly "hear the world."
Doctors now recommend that Yu Xuan undergo cochlear implant surgery as soon as possible. However, the high cost of the procedure, combined with the family’s limited financial means, has left them only able to afford RM19,000. Her parents are now appealing for public support to raise the remaining RM89,500 needed for the implant.
【Has Been Wearing Hearing Aids Since 6 Months Old, but Shows Little Improvement — Her Delayed Speech Development Severely Affects Her Learning】
Born with hearing loss, Chan Yu Xuan has been wearing hearing aids since she was six months old and is now on her second pair. However, over the years, the devices have brought minimal improvement. She still struggles to understand spoken instructions and cannot express herself clearly. Her speech development is significantly delayed, which impacts her daily life, education, and ability to communicate with others.
After years of seeking medical advice, her parents were referred by a friend to a renowned ENT specialist in November last year. Following multiple consultations and evaluations, the doctor recently recommended a unilateral cochlear implant for her left ear. Unfortunately, the high cost of the surgery is beyond the family's means, prompting them to seek public assistance in hopes of securing a brighter future for their daughter.
Chan Chee Liang (41), Yu Xuan’s father, works as a machine operator at a factory in Singapore. Her mother, Yong Mei Ching (34), was retrenched earlier this year and only recently secured a new factory job. To minimize living costs, the couple commutes daily between Malaysia and Singapore. Yu Xuan is their only child.
As most kindergartens in Johor do not accept children with hearing impairments, Yu Xuan currently lives in Mersing under the care of her elderly grandparents, and attends a local kindergarten that has previously accepted hearing-impaired children. For every hospital appointment, her parents make a two-hour drive from Johor Bahru to pick her up and accompany her to Kuala Lumpur for treatment — all in the hope of giving her a chance at a normal life.
After reviewing the case, One Hope Charity has decided to help the family raise the remaining RM89,500 needed for the cochlear implant surgery. We hope this will open the door to a world of sound for Yu Xuan and change the course of her life.
