A Baby’s Heart in Critical Condition, Surgery Needed Within 48 Hours!

The joy of becoming new parents should be a time of happiness and celebration. However, for the family of baby Chern Xander from Puchong, Selangor, it has turned into a journey filled with worry and tears.

Shortly after birth, baby Xander was rushed to the intensive care unit due to rapid breathing. Initially diagnosed with laryngomalacia, further examinations revealed three holes in his tiny heart. Doctors recommended close monitoring and medication to manage his condition. However, his situation took a turn for the worse. His weight dropped from 2.35kg at birth to 2.18kg, his oxygen levels plummeted, and his heart function continued to deteriorate.

This devastating news has left Xander’s parents overwhelmed and desperate. Hoping to secure their baby’s future, they had previously purchased a cord blood storage package, never imagining they would face such a life-and-death crisis. The staggering medical costs have become an unbearable burden for this young family. Despite using up all their savings, they are still short of RM112,000.

【Baby Requires Two Life-Saving Surgeries – Overwhelming Medical Costs Leave New Parents Desperate, Plea for Public Support】

First-time parents faced with a heartbreaking challenge as their baby battles congenital heart disease.

Chern Kah Seng, (30) and Crystal Loo Kyle Lee (30) were eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first child, but their joy quickly turned into distress as their newborn faced a life-threatening medical condition.

During the pregnancy, everything appeared normal until week 38, when Lü experienced unusual abdominal pain. A hospital check revealed that her cervix was already dilated to three centimeters, and she was immediately admitted for delivery. Their baby boy was born weighing 2.35kg and cried at birth, but his rapid breathing and abnormal sounds prompted doctors to transfer him to the intensive care unit for further evaluation.

Detailed examinations revealed that the baby was suffering from laryngomalacia and was also diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), and Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). His tiny heart had three holes: two measuring 7mm and one 4mm, all requiring early surgical intervention.

After birth, the baby relied on assisted breathing and medication to sustain his life. Unfortunately, his condition worsened. He struggled to breathe while feeding, taking an hour to consume just 30ml of milk. His weight dropped from 2.35kg to 2.18kg, and his oxygen saturation fell below 90%. Specialists warned that his heart was progressively failing, and urgent surgery was necessary.

The first surgery involves a Pulmonary Artery Banding (PA Banding) procedure to stabilize his breathing. Six months later, another surgery will be required to repair the holes in his heart. The total cost for these surgeries is RM160,000. Despite exhausting all resources, his parents are still short of RM112,000.

Both parents work as marketing professionals. They had set aside RM30,000 for delivery and postnatal care, but escalating medical expenses have left them financially overwhelmed.

After an emergency review, ONE HOPE CHARITY has agreed to help the family raise the necessary medical funds. The parents have entrusted the fundraising campaign to the foundation, which will also manage and receive all donations on their behalf.
