Urgent Fundraising – Muhammad Rafiuddin (Slipped Disc)

Description
Muhammad Rafiuddin, a previously healthy and hardworking man, suddenly began experiencing back pain and numbness in his leg. His condition rapidly worsened, eventually leaving him unable to walk. After seeking medical help, he was diagnosed with a slipped disc. Unfortunately, medication and injections brought no relief, and doctors have advised immediate surgery.
“The doctor gave me three weeks of medical leave, but without surgery, I’ll have to endure the constant pain and might even lose my ability to walk. What I fear most is losing my job. I still have two children to support, and I just want to recover and return to work as soon as possible.”
Living in Permatang Pauh SPT, Muhammad Rafiuddin had always enjoyed good health. To support his family, he juggled two jobs. However, this sudden health crisis turned his life upside down and left him unable to work. Now, unable to afford the high cost of surgery, he is appealing to the public for help hoping to undergo the surgery soon, ease the pain, and get back on his feet.
【Unable to Straighten Left Leg, Walking Becomes Excruciating – Relies on Painkillers Daily, Surgery Urgently Needed】
Muhammad Rafiuddin’s condition has continued to deteriorate. He can no longer lie down with his left leg straight, and walking or climbing stairs causes him intense pain. He now relies on painkillers to get through each night. Doctors have advised him to wear a back brace continuously to help ease the spinal pressure and reduce the pain.
His symptoms actually began two years ago with mild back pain, which subsided after a while, so he didn’t think much of it. Then last year, he started experiencing numbness in his lower leg, which he assumed was a minor nerve issue and did not seek further treatment. By February this year, the pain had worsened and spread to his thigh, to the point that he could no longer walk. Early medical consultations only resulted in painkillers being prescribed.
He was later referred to a specialist hospital, where an MRI scan revealed spinal canal narrowing at L4/L5, compressing the nerves due to a prolapsed disc. The doctor recommended a spinal injection, which cost over RM7,000 — fortunately covered by his employer’s medical benefits. Sadly, the relief only lasted a few days, and the pain returned. The doctor has now advised an urgent open discectomy surgery.
Muhammad Rafiuddin works as a ward assistant at a private hospital, earning around RM2,000 a month. Although divorced, he has two young children, aged 9 and 7, whom he still supports financially. To make ends meet, he also works part-time at a local eatery at night, earning an extra RM500 monthly.
His employer provides each staff member with RM15,000 in annual medical benefits, but most of that has already been used for earlier diagnostics and treatment. He has tried seeking care from a government hospital, but the waiting time is extremely long. The pain has become unbearable, affecting his daily life and mobility. He has recently been given three weeks of medical leave by his doctor.
In efforts to relieve his condition, he has tried massage therapy and physiotherapy, but with limited success. Chiropractic treatment was discouraged due to the nature of his condition. His mobility has been greatly impacted — he can no longer exercise, walk properly, or perform normal activities. Fearing the loss of his job, he is now under immense emotional and financial pressure. He sincerely hopes the public will come to his aid, so he can undergo surgery and return to a normal life.
After a home visit and case review, One Hope Charity has decided to launch a fundraising campaign to help cover the surgery costs. For inquiries, please contact our hotline at 04-539 9212, 016-4192 192, 019-2322 192, or 018-911 4192.
