Description

"Our mother has yet to regain consciousness—she is in a state of open-eye coma. Though her eyes may be open, she is unaware of her surroundings. We hope that with continued treatment, her awareness will gradually return. We sincerely appeal for your help and generosity."

Wee Siu Ling, a 54-year-old woman from Kajang, Selangor, has been working in China for the past 12 years. In November last year, she suddenly experienced difficulty breathing and was rushed to the hospital. Upon arrival, she suffered a cardiac arrest, and after emergency resuscitation, she was diagnosed with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. She remains hospitalized in China, where doctors have assessed her condition as stable and suitable for ongoing rehabilitation. However, her family has exhausted all their savings and can no longer afford further treatment, leaving them with no choice but to seek help from the public.

【Condition Stable, Requires Only Rehabilitation, but Savings Are Depleted】

Wee Siu Ling moved to China 12 years ago after divorcing her ex-husband. There, she built a new life and started a family, running a Taobao shop with her 42-year-old husband.

In 2014, a medical check-up revealed that she had congenital left ventricular hypertrophy. However, to avoid worrying her children, she never disclosed her condition.

On November 18 last year, she suddenly experienced breathing difficulties and was rushed to the hospital. Due to delays in emergency treatment, she suffered cardiac arrest upon arrival. Although doctors managed to resuscitate her, she was diagnosed with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and has yet to regain consciousness.

【Family Has Paid Nearly RM200,000 in Medical Expenses—Now Unable to Afford Repatriation and Continued Treatment】

In the early stages of her illness, Wee Siu Ling was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and emergency ward due to the severity of her condition, resulting in extremely high medical costs. As a foreigner in China, her children searched for more affordable hospitals to transfer her to in hopes of easing the financial burden.

Recently, doctors assessed that her condition has stabilized and deemed her fit for repatriation and rehabilitation. Her family is eager to bring her home as soon as possible so she can continue treatment through acupuncture and physiotherapy, in hopes of awakening. However, the repatriation process involves significant expenses, including special seating arrangements, two accompanying medical personnel, and a full range of necessary medical equipment—further straining the family’s finances.

Wee Siu Ling remains in a state of open-eye coma. She has a tracheostomy tube and is unable to eat on her own, relying on a feeding tube for nutrition. Due to the high cost and poor digestibility of nutritional liquids, her daughter prepares blended food to feed her. On top of this, the family must also bear the cost of adult diapers, wet wipes, and topical medication—adding to their growing financial stress.

Wee Siu Ling has four children with her ex-husband, aged between 21 and 29, all of whom are single and work in various fields such as e-commerce, telecommunications sales, and food service. Her second daughter (27), was working as a customer service agent but had just resigned when her mother fell ill. Without hesitation, she flew to China and has been caring for her mother ever since.

Faced with this sudden and devastating turn of events, the children have done everything they can to cover their mother’s medical bills, but their savings have now been completely depleted.

On the recommendation of the local consulate, the family turned to ONE HOPE CHARITY for assistance. They are now urgently seeking to raise RM97,000 to bring their mother home and continue her rehabilitation with the hope of regaining consciousness.

After reviewing the case, ONE HOPE CHARITY has agreed to take on the fundraising campaign for Wee Siu Ling. The family has entrusted the entire fundraising process to ONE HOPE CHARITY, which will also handle all donations. ONE HOPE CHARITY has pledged to contribute RM5,000 from its Emergency Medical and Contigency Fund.
