"Comparing to donating my liver, I'm more afraid to lose my husband".

Baharudin Bin Ayob, who is from Muar, Johor suffers from Cirrhosis. His wife's liver is confirmed to be suitable for donation and she agreed to donate without hesitation.

This is the first case in Malaysia where 2 non-related person undergoing liver transplant surgery. This surgery will use the wife's liver to be transplanted to her husband. The transplant surgery will be performing in UM Hospital. The surgery fee cost RM120,000.

Baharudin Bin Ayob, 54, who is from Muar, Johor was diagnosed with Hepatitis B when he is around 30 years old. He did not undergo any treatment previously.

Baharudin stated that he was diagnosed with Cirrhosis a year ago. He was forced to quit his job as an oil palm harvester.

In September, he lost weight suddenly and his face turned yellowish. He left 6 months to live if no surgery is performed.

"My wife and I have a 7 year old child. He is too young to donate his liver and I do not really have high hopes to find a suitable liver".

Hazillah Binti Hassan, 46, who loves his husband received test and is suitable to donate her liver to her husband.

When we asked Hazillah if she is scared as this is a major surgery, she stated that she is not afraid, but she is more afraid to lose her husband. She could not imagine life without her husband.

Baharudin is forced to resign a year ago. His wife became the breadwinner of the family. She works as a bank officer and drawing a monthly salary of RM5,000. She has 4 children with her ex-husband. One of them has married and the other 3 is still schooling. She and her current husband has a 7 year old son.

After discussing with the hospital, this is the first case in Malaysia where 2 non related person undergoing liver transplant surgery.

Liver is usually donated by related person such as siblings, parents etc. Non-related donors are usually donated by a someone who had passed away.

Hazillah's liver is suitable to be transplanted to Baharudin. This chance is very minimal but One Hope Charity decided to help them to fundraise an amount of RM120,000 after confirming their case.
