A 2-month-old baby boy was diagnosed with congenital heart disease after born. He was also diagnosed Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the confinement centre. Now his blood vessels are getting smaller day by day. Therefore, he must undergo heart surgery immediately, otherwise his life will be in danger. The surgical fee of RM50,000 made the first-time parents anxious and plead with the public to save their children.

Chong Wei Jie, a 2-month-old baby boy from Paya Terubong, Penang. When the mother was pregnant, the doctor noticed that there may be a problem with the fetus. After a detailed checking, the doctor found that the development of the fetus’s legs did not match the pregnancy period but no abnormality of the fetus’s heart was found. However, the mother was also diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

Until the moment of full-term birth on September 19, because the fetus was not head down, the hospital could only undergo a Caesarean section.

After the baby boy Chong Wei Jie was born, the doctor found that his leg problem and his blood vessels was also very small. At that time, the doctor thought that the blood vessels were large enough to support him, so doctor arranged a follow-up date for a more detailed examination.

The mother and the baby boy then stay in the confinement centre in Penang. When he was nearly one month old, he was diagnosed Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) due to the babysitter in the confinement centre was positive patient. He had to go home for quarantine and he missed the follow-up appointment.

When the baby boy’s quarantine came to end on October 27, his parents immediately took him to the hospital. However, the doctor could only give him another appointment date for CT scan.

On November 8th, the results of the CT scan were released. The doctor found that Chong Wei Jie's blood vessels were atrophy and abnormal development. Doctor had immediately requested him to stay in the hospital and use medication to control the heart problem.

However, the doctor informed that this medication can only temporarily sustain Chong Wei Jie's life. He required to undergo surgery and it is the only option to completely get rid of his heart disease.

The parents immediately sought the opinion of the Paediatric Cardiologist. The doctor said Chong Wei Jie's diagnosed Coactation of Aorta, Large Patent Ductus Arteriosus, And Patent Foramen Ovale. His condition was very critical and he must undergo surgery as soon as possible. The operation cost is RM50,000.

Today, Chong Wei Jie is still in the observation ward of the hospital. The baby with heart disease cannot cry too much, otherwise his face will turn purple, so the doctor used medicine to let him fall asleep.

Seeing that the child was in the hospital waiting for further treatment, the parents felt heart broken and helpless. But they did not give up and seeking help from other. It is to hoping that the child could undergo the operation soonest and thus they seek help from ONE HOPE CHARITY.

His father, Chong Kok Leong, is a hawker with a monthly income of about RM3,000. His mother, Koay Ai Hoon, is currently unemployed. After reviewing the case, One Hope Charity decided to help the boy in raising the shortfall of RM50,000 in surgical fee.
