She is not even one month old but in order to continue survive, she has flown twice to seek medication treatment. The small yet resilient life needs your care and donations!

Yip Xiao Wei, a newborn baby girl from a small town of Sarikei, Sarawak, who is not even a month old, suffers from severe heart disease. She took a helicopter from Sarikei to the Kuching Hospital for a surgery on the second day of her birth, and then, she took a plane to Peninsular Malaysia and had another heart repair surgery in a hospital in Kuala Lumpur when she was just 15 days old.

The pregnancy of her mother went smoothly and she did not feel unwell. After her baby girl was born on 18 February, the doctor found that the baby was not breathing smoothly. After thorough examination, it was discovered that she had a serious congenital heart disease and needed to be treated at Kuching Hospital as soon as possible, otherwise, her life would be in danger.

The drive from Sarikei to Kuching Hospital takes seven hours but the baby girl’s condition was critical and she could not wait any longer, so the hospital arranged a helicopter to send her and her mother to Kuching Hospital. She underwent a balloon atrial septostomy on the same day, which was mainly to buy time for her corrective surgery for the transposition of the great arteries.

The baby girl suffers from the transposition of the great arteries. In order to get rid of the heart disease, she must undergo a surgery at a specialist hospital in Kuala Lumpur. While the baby girl was under observation and treatment at Kuching Hospital, the hospital also made the arrangement for her to fly to the hospital in Kuala Lumpur for the surgery.

The baby girl’s condition was very serious. On 5 March, she arrived in Kuala Lumpur for treatment, accompanied by her mother and medical personnel. However, her parents cannot afford the RM80,000 in surgical fee, hence, they approached One Hope Charity for help.

Her mother Ng Siong Ho told One Hope Charity’s volunteers that her eldest son and second daughter are 19 years old and 17 years old respectively. She always wanted to have a third child, but there was no good news in the past. And now, she finally delivered to the youngest daughter that she looked forward to for so many years but the baby girl was diagnosed with serious heart disease which made her sad.

“She is still so small, but she needs to undergo so many surgeries. But what else can we do? I told the doctor that the most important thing is to save my baby’s life.”

Xiao Wei’s 48-year-old father, Yip Chiew Kai is a chef with a monthly salary of about RM3,000. Her 44-year-old mothe,r Siong Ho is a housewife.

After reviewing the case, One Hope Charity decided to assist Xiao Wei in raising the neccessry medical expenses. Her family agreed to fully authorise One Hope Charity to take charge of the fundraising and collect the donations from the well-wishers on their behalf.
