“We still have two daughters who are still schooling. He can’t collapse. Our family needs him a lot….”

46-year-old Zulkarnain Bin Muslim is the head of his family. They live in Permatang Pauh, Penang. He was strong and did not suffer from illness. He used to work hard to support his family. However, he collapsed one day during work, so his colleagues quickly sent him to a nearby hospital. After examination, the doctor discovered his multiple cardiovascular were blocked, and medicine did not help to improve his condition.

The doctor said he needed the mechanical thrombectomy within the golden window, but government hospitals did not have the equipment. Therefore, the family could only transfer him to the only specialist hospital in the Northern region with this technology for the surgery that cost RM65,000.

Zulkarnain Bin Muslim’s company insurance can cover RM20,000 of his medical expenses, and the family can afford RM5,000. The helpless wife turned to One Hope Charity for assistance with the remaining RM40,000. The committee had an emergency meeting and approved the application.

【The patient was strong and only had gastric problems. He has a well-built body as he must carry heavy loads at work. A sudden stroke nearly took away his life, and he was also worried about his surgical cost and his family’s living expenses in the future】

Zulkarnain Bin Muslim fainted at around 9:00 am on Monday while at work. His wife rushed to the hospital after receiving a call from Zulkarnain’s company. The doctor told her that her husband needed surgery immediately or could be permanently paralysed.

The doctor also said the patient had multiple cardiovascular blockages, so his recovery rate was just 50%. If he did not undergo surgery, he would not have had any chance to recover. His 46-year-old wife, Rozita Bt Abu Bakar, was worried about her husband’s condition and what would happen to the family if something terrible happened to him.

The wife said her husband always has a regular daily routine, but he could not sleep a night before he collapsed due to hot weather. He fell asleep around 6:00 am and went to work at 8:00 am. Unexpectedly, she received the news that her husband had collapsed about an hour later.

She added that although her husband has a bad temper, he has never beaten their children. He is a responsible family man. Therefore, she felt helpless and worried when her husband had a stroke.

Zulkarnain Bin Muslim works as a lorry repair technician in a logistics company. He is very hardworking and is valued by his company. He earns RM5,000 a month. His wife, Rozita Bt Abu Bakar, is a housewife. They have five children. Their 26-year-old eldest son works as a construction site supervisor with a salary of RM1,800; their 23-year-old daughter is a factory operator; their 21-year-old son is doing an internship after completing his studies; and their two daughters, aged 16 and 12, are still studying.

One Hope Charity reviewed and approved the application immediately after receiving the case. The organisation decided to raise the remaining RM40,000 for Zulkarnain’s surgery.
