One Hope Charity once again supported Penang’s Prison Department by donating 3,000 unit of Covid-19 test kits to the Jawi Prison.

One Hope Charity & Welfare chairman Dato’ Chua Sui Hau said that the variants of Covid-19 are spreading fast, so One Hope Charity decided to donate 3,000 units of Covid-19 test kits to the Prison Department, with the hope to break the chain of infection in the prison.

“In our fight against Covid-19 earlier, One Hope Charity donated medical face masks to prisons on the Penang Island and Jawi. After that, we also donated blood pressure measuring equipment, thermometers, and finger-clip oximeters to the two prisons, so that prisoners and jail officers could conduct self-examination there.”

According to PKK Khairil Nizam bin Anuar, director of the Seberang Prai’s Prison Department, there are currently about 2,000 prisoners in Jawi Prison, of which about 80% are male and 20% are female. If any of the prisoners unfortunately infected with Covid-19, they will be isolated in a special area, and the doctors from the Health Department will come to check on them every day.

He said that the 3,000 test kits sent by One Hope Charity came at the right time as prisoners often have to move around police stations, prison and courts; and all prisoners must be tested negative with the self-test kits provided as soon as they leave the prison and before they return to the prison.

The 3,000 units of self-test kits were handed over by One Hope Charity & Welfare chairman Dato’ Chua Sui Hau to Seberang Prai’s Prison Department director PKK Khairil Nizam bin Anuar. The ceremony was witnessed by its deputy director PP S. Tanabal A/L Socklingam and One Hope Charity and Welfare advisor Dato Seri R. Arunasalam.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, One Hope Charity has supported Penang’s Prison Department for several times, with the hope to break the chain of infection in the prisons. These supports were made possible with the general donations from the well-wishers, so that One Hope Charity could provide help to those individuals and agencies in need in times of emergency.
