“Mom used to cry very often before this, but I finally saw her smile today.”

Although Eecoo Hiew Yiu Donn is just nine years old, but her family’s situation and her growing environment make her more independent and sensible compared to other children of her age. She said that she has not seen her mother smile since the passing of her father. In addition, her mother is sick, so when she looked at her mother, she will also feel sad.

Eecoo’s mother, Lim Yen Mei said frankly that the death of her husband left a great impact to her life and she still cannot get through the grief of losing her husband. They got married after a blind date, and her husband could accept her epilepsy. She described her husband as a caring man who took good care of his family and loved his wife and daughter, and she often misses her husband and she always cries together with her daughter.

As she is unable to get out of the pain of bereavement, she has been in grief for more than two years. She cried when she thought of her husband, and she even lost her appetite which resulted her to lose weight drastically. Since a few months ago, she decided to have a chance. For the sake of her daughter, she needs to be strong and stay positive.

Eecoo, who is articulate, said, “I will work hard to study, my mom needs to works hard to be strong and positive, and my grandmother needs to work hard to take care of the two of us.”

One Hope Charity and Welfare chairman Dato’ Chua Sui Hau visited Eecoo’s family recently. Besides bringing daily dry food, he also brought some extra-curricular readings, picture books, bridge books, personal protective equipment such as children’s face masks, sanitizer, Covid-19 self-test kits, school shoes, stationeries, colour pencils, among others, for the little girl.

Her mother, Yen Mei no longer frowns and she finally shows a smile on her face. Eecoo said, “I finally saw my mom smile.” Although it was just a simple statement, but it was also a heart-wrenching statement.

After learning that she likes reading Ge Mei Lia Kokko & May educational comics, and she hopes to learn piano, the chairman agreed to sign up the monthly subscription of the comics for her, and at the same time, arranged for her to sign up for piano lessons, hoping that she would have a happy and carefree childhood.

One Hope Charity will support Eecoo’s family from now on, and provide them with the montly living and education expenses for five years. We hope that little Eecoo can spend her childhood in a happy and healthy environment.
