At the end of last year, One Hope Charity launched its “Food Aid Programme for University Students From Underprivileged Families”. So far, nearly 1000 sets of food supplies have been delivered to universities and the students’ dormitories to help ease the living burdens and relive the material shortages of those students who came from underprivileged families.

One Hope Charity started to let university students from poor and underprivileged families in Peninsular Malaysia apply for “One Hope Food Basket Programme” through online from 18 November last year. The application has officially ended on 31 March 2022. After receiving the applications, One Hope Charity also sent out nearly 1000 sets of food aid by stages to the beneficiaries.

At the beginning, One Hope Charity received inquiries from some tertiary students whether they could be provided with food aid when they started their classes. After the meeting, One Hope Charity decided to carry out its One Hope Charity Food Basket Programme and send out the food baskets to each beneficiary’s university or dormitory by courier, so that they can be benefited directly.

Each food basket contained daily food supplies, medical grade face masks, Covid-19 RTK self-test kit, hand sanitizer and other products. It is worth RM250 each.

Many university students sent out WhatsApp messages to One Hope Charity’s hotline after receiving the food basket to inform that they had received the items through courier service. They also thanked One Hope Charity for sending out not only daily necessities but also personal protection items.

Many beneficiaries came from single-parent families, some of their parents suffered from serious illnesses, and some parents unfortunately died of Covid-19, which resulted their families to suddenly lose their financial support.

The food aid was like timely rain that directly relieved the burden of many university students, so that they could continue to focus on their education, and later contribute to the society after they have succeeded in their studies.
