At the beginning of the year, the 65-year-old one-legged man traveled alone from Johor Bahru to Bukit Mertajam in search of relatives. After a while of wandering the streets, he was arranged to be admitted to a nursing home to spend his later years. He died unexpectedly a few days ago as a result of a virus infection. ONE HOPE CHARITY raised funds to assist with a coffin and deal with his aftermath, allowing him to be buried in peace.

Choong Kim Heng returned to Bukit Mertajam in March of this year by bus from Johor Bahru. When he planned to return to his hometown, he discovered that it had become a new residential area. He couldn't contact his relatives because he had lost contact with his family for a long time, so he wandered around Pek Kong Cheng.

He has diabetes and his left leg was amputated previously, so he must rely on a wheelchair to beg everywhere. Because the nearby businesses are concerned about his safety, they seek assistance from ONE HOPE CHARITY. ONE HOPE CHARITY arranged for his admission to the nursing home and assisted in contacting his younger siblings. They agreed to let Kim Heng live in the nursing home because they all had their own burdens.

ONE HOPE CHARITY raised RM50,000 for him in April of this year, allowing him to live in a nursing home for an extended period of time and also assisting with prostheses. His relatives pay him frequent visits to the nursing home.

He was inadvertently injured in October of this year, and the wound became infected with bacteria. His condition worsened after being admitted to the hospital, and he died on October 18.

ONE HOPE CHARITY will transfer the funds raised previously to deal with his aftermath, which includes a coffin, funeral service, and cremation. On the day of the funeral, all relatives and friends came to pay their respects to Kim Heng, after which he was cremated and his ashes were placed in the Bukit Mertajam Columbarium.

If there are any poor or needy who could not afford and manage the funeral for their loved ones, or there are any elderly living alone who are interested in registering for the “Promise of the Last Journey” programme, kindly contact ONE HOPE CHARITY at 016-419 2192, 019-232 2192 or 04-539 9212 for help.
