An unmarried man, who is in his 60s, passed away on the first day of the Chinese New Year. One Hope Charity gathered the general donations from the public and provided him with a coffin, as well as sent out volunteers to help in his funeral, so that he had a dignified send-off.

63-year-old unmarried man, Tan Hock Sun, passed away due to illness. Earlier, he was paralysed due to a stroke and his siblings sent him to a nursing home and paid for the fees. However, he passed away in the hospital on the first day of Chinese New Year due to lungs infection.

Hock Sun was a construction site supervisor before he suffered a stroke. Unfortunately, the two-year-long Movement Control Order (MCO) resulted him to lose his job, and he suffered from illness after that. His 60-year-old brother, who lived with him and worked in the same industry, is unable to work due to knee pain caused by occupational injuries. He is currently relying on his Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) to support his daily life.

Due to financial constraints, the younger brother was unable to pay for his brother’s funeral. The other siblings are old. And due to the taboos during Chinese New Year, no one stepped in to help. Hence, the brother approached One Hope Charity for funeral and burial assistance.

One Hope Charity has always been providing funeral and burial assistances to poor and underprivileged families. As long as a family fulfilled the qualifications, One Hope Charity would take charge of the funeral expenses, so that the family could give their loved one a dignified send-off.

If there are any poor or needy who could not afford and manage the funeral for their loved ones, or there are any elderly living alone who are interested in registering for the “Promise of the Last Journey” programme, kindly contact ONE HOPE CHARITY at 016-419 2192, 019-232 2192 or 04-539 9212 for help.
