12-year-old boy Ivan Lee Tian Chi, who has been taken care by his grandparents, had undergone a successful cochlear implantation surgery. His electronic cochleae has started operation before the Chinese New Year, and he can once again hear the lively atmosphere of the celebrations.

Ivan from Menglembu in Perak, was discovered by his grandmother that he seemed unable to hear some two years ago. His grandmother brought him for examination and it was confirmed that he had complete hearing loss in his left ear, and only 30% of his hearing ability is left in his right ear.

After various examinations, the doctor determined that he was suitable to undergo a cochlear implant in his left ear, so that his both ears could assist each other and slowly regain its hearing ability.

The total cost of cochlear implant surgery was RM106,700 but his grandparents were unable to afford it. Hence, One Hope Charity had launched a fundraising to help Ivan. He underwent the cochlear implant surgery on 23 January, and the surgery was very successful. He was discharged after a few days of recuperation in the hospital.

The doctor waited until his wound was completely healed, and the audiologist switched on the electronic cochleae on 28 January – a few days before the Chinese New Year. It was something exciting for Ivan to regain his hearing in time, just before the Chinese New Year.

Ivan is a good boy. During the Chinese New Year, he purposely sent a special text message to One Hope Charity and thanked the well-wishers for their donations, which allowed him to have the opportunity to undergo surgery to regain his hearing.
