Due to hearing loss in one of his ears, his mother mistakenly treated him as a child addicted to computer games and not concentrating on his online lessons. His mother also thought he was rebellious and did not want to follow his teachers' instructions. Little did she know that it was due to the hearing impairment in one of his ears. He could only hear the sounds from the computer during his online classes and the sounds at an empty spare, but not the content.

And now, nine-year-old boy Lau Meng Hin from Ipoh, Perak, had the chance to undergo cochlear implant surgery. He had successful surgery on 5 January, and the doctor will activate and tune his newly implanted cochlea about a month after the surgery.

Although he could not hear in one ear, Meng Hin has always received one-on-one teaching in the past, so he was among the best students in class. He speaks clearly, communicates well with others, and is an intelligent child. To prevent him from developing a sense of inferiority as a child growing up in a single-parent family, his mother tried her best to fulfil his wishes. She sent him to piano and art classes. At the same time, she also taught him to be independent and self-reliant as he has no father.

With the completion of the fundraising of RM81,700 that Meng Hin needed for the cochlear implant surgery, the mother is very grateful for the help from the public, which made her feel that there is love and care everywhere in the world. She admitted that she was very resistant to raise funds from others initially and even wondered whether people would give their donations. Still, this time, she deeply understood the incredible power of unity and accepted that she needed help from others.

Her biggest wish is for his son to be independent after regaining his hearing ability. She knew that her son's future might be rough without the cochlear implant surgery, which would affect his life and development in the future.
