A car accident put pressure on the spine, impairing kidney function. Many years later, Lee Yew Wing, 54, was forced to undergo kidney dialysis. Fortunately, social insurance covered the majority of the dialysis costs. The doctor recommended an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) operation, but the man was powerless and demanded payment for the procedure.

Lee Yew Wing of Machang Bubok, Penang, was in a car accident in 2008 that crushed his kidneys. Following the surgery, the doctor advised him to watch his diet. In 2020, his entire body swelled unexpectedly. He was diagnosed with renal failure and required kidney dialysis after being examined at the hospital.

Last year, the dialysis centre nurse informed him that the blood vessels in her arm's dialysis site had narrowed, and the doctor recommended arteriovenous fistula (AVF) surgery. Simultaneously, a venous fistula surgery on the neck would be performed for temporary dialysis.

Yew Wing and his wife earn RM20 per day selling bread in a market. During kidney dialysis, the wife is on her own in the stall. The couple has one daughter, who has recently completed her studies and is working in a factory.

Following home visits and review, ONE HOPE CHARITY determined the surgery fee needed for assistance. We did not start fundraising because the surgery fee was less than RM20,000. Instead, it made good use of the usual well-meaning donations to assist Yew Wing.
