Two 60-year-old men were forced to have their limbs amputated to save their lives due to diabetes., They lives have changed after losing a leg. Because of the inconvenient movement, their family members have to take care them in long term, which indirectly affects other’s work and financial conditions.

Tan Ah Hock, 61 years old, who from Butterworth has suffered from diabetes for many years. His left toe was amputated 7 years ago because of a bacterial infection. Last year, the doctor found the condition of the affected area deteriorated and the nerve line in the affected area had been necrotic, so the limb was amputated in November 2020.

When his prosthesis was done, he couldn't wait to put on the prosthesis. Under the guidance of the prosthetic maker, he learned to walk with prosthesis. Although the process was difficult, he couldn't hide his excitement that he could stand and walk again.

‘After my condition is stable, I’m going to look for a job. I don’t want to rely on my children all the time. I want to earn money on my own’, says by Tan Ah Hock.

Goh Bak Yam, 66 years old, who from Bukit Mertajam has suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes for many years. In June 2020, her left foot was amputated due to a bacterial infection.

He used to be a construction worker, but he has stopped for more than 2 years. After amputation, he lives in his younger brother's house, and the monthly expenses are borne by his only son.

His son is working in a local coffee shop located at Kubang Semang. Goh excitedly told One Hope Charity team that the coffee shop owner also promised him that if he can stand up again, he will be hired to work in the coffee shop as well.

‘The boss said that I can go to work if I able to stand up, therefore I came to apply for the prosthesis (from One Hope Charity), and I am happy that I finally got it’, says by Goh.

He still needs some time to learn to walk with the prosthesis after this, Goh promised that he will use the prosthesis well and return to the right track of life.
