46-year-old Ang Guan Shun often bled profusely due to bursting of varicose veins, and he was unable to work due to the pain and he could not walk. He was helpless and was waiting endlessly for an appointment for examinatino at the government hospital. He suffered so much and he finally received help from One Hope Charity to undergo a surgery. And now, he is finally free of the disease and can return to work.

Guan Shun, who lives in Kampung Besar in Bukit Mertajam, suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. He developed varicose veins in his legs when he was in his 20s, but the condition was not serious. However, the hamstring of his left foot began to twist and bulge out in the calf about three years ago, and he often bled profusely and was in great pain; he relied on painkillers to relieve the pain.

Last year, he was in so much pain that he could not stand and walk. The doctor suggested him to receive treatment at a specialist hospital. The doctor there told him that the small bumps could be removed by laser, while the large ones would need to be removed by surgery, and the medical fee cost RM15,000. The good news regained his hope in life, and he later approached One Hope Charity for assistance.

Guan Shun was a crane driver but he became a coffee shop helper after the pandemic. He is currently single after his divorce many years ago. He lives with his eldest sister. However, he could not work due to varicose vein rupture. His case was reviewed after a home visit, and One Hope Charity decided to help him with the surgical fee, with the hope that he could return to work and become self-reliant after the surgery.

Guan Shun’s surgery was scheduled at the end of September last year, and it went smoothly. He had the stitches removed in the hospital on 11 October. He took some time to recuperate and he could walk slowly. And now, he has returned to work as usual, and he is very grateful for the assistance given by One Hope Charity.
