An unmarried old man suffered from severe bedsores due to long-term bedridden after a stroke. No one took care of him after he was discharged from the hospital, so he was admitted to a nursing home under the arrangement of One Hope Charity, so that he can be taken care of by trained personnel, as well as to enjoy his twilight years in a comfortable environment

An unmarried old man suffered from severe bedsores due to long-term bedridden after a stroke. There was no one there to take care of him after he was discharged from the hospital. One Hope Charity arranged his admission to a nursing home so that he can get a better care, and at the same time, One Hope Charity also sponsored the expenses of his wounds cleaning, diapers, and special formula milk powder to reduce the burden of his relatives.

61-year-old Lim Poh Kooi from Penang Island, made a living by selling iced drinks when he was young. He stopped work due to his health condition and moved in to stay with his sister.

In April 2021, he underwent a surgery after suffered from a stroke. He was treated and recuperated in the hospital for five months. After he was discharged from the hospital, his relatives sent him to a nursing home. His nephew paid for the monthly fee of RM1,000, as well as the other needs of the patient such as diapers and special formula milk powder.

However, his relatives soon discovered that Poh Kooi suffered from severe bedsores. He was admitted to the hospital due to infection on 8 January. His relatives approached One Hope Charity with the hope to look for a suitable nursing home, so that Poh Kooi can receive better care.

After a home visit by the team from One Hope Charity, they found out that the sister that lives with Poh Kooi has lost her sight due to a tumor in her brain. She is being taken care by her daughter, and his nephew bears all the family expenses. Therefore, One Hope Charity decided to assist and send Poh Kooi to another nursing home for a better care, as well as to reduce the financial burden of his relatives.

Poh Kooi has severe bedsores and must clean the wounds every day to prevent infections. One Hope Charity will sponsor the expenses of wounds cleaning, diapers, special formula milk powder, etc., while his nephew will pay for the nursing home fee.

Poh Kooi was allowed to be discharged a few days ago. As he has mobility difficulty, One Hope Charity also arranged an ambulance to send him to the nursing home. His niece and nephew were also there to accompany him and to complete the admission procedures of the nursing home.
