Suffering from cancer is already a shock. A 58-year-old woman was diagnosed with tongue cancer and later found out she had ovarian cancer. The patient and her family were taken aback by the double blow because no one in her family had cancer.

Fatimah Wati Binti Osman, 58, from Kulim, Kedah, developed frequent ulcers on her left tongue two years ago. The ulcers reoccurred. They would disappear for a day or two, then reappear frequently.

In December 2022, she began to experience bloating, painful tongue ulcers, loss of appetite, and difficulty swallowing. The clinic referred her to a government hospital for testing, and the results confirmed she had stage III tongue cancer. The preliminary examination revealed that the woman has ovarian cancer due to her abdominal swelling. The family's savings have been depleted, and they are now hoping for assistance of RM 30,000 for medical expenses.

【The woman gradually accepted the facts after she resisted, and with the encouragement of her family, she worked harder to cooperate with the treatment, but the lack of medical expenses worried her.】

Fatimah Wati was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in February this year. Due to abdominal distension, the test found that her abdomen was full of water. She had excreted 1.2 liters, 4.1 liters and 4.5 liters of abdominal water respectively in the hospital.

The patient was referred to IPPT in Bertam for 5 brachytherapy sessions in early February by the hospital. To allow the patient to receive treatment, the family borrowed money from relatives and friends at the time.

A woman who avoids spicy foods and follows a healthy diet was diagnosed with tongue cancer. She is now actively participating in radiotherapy and chemotherapy after undergoing brachytherapy. Concerning the ovarian cancer, it is still being investigated whether it is the result of the spread of tongue cancer or not. The doctor also stated that the treatment plan for ovarian cancer must be completed after the treatment for tongue cancer is completed.

Fatimah Wati is a housewife who worked in a factory before marriage, and her family has applied for SOCSO assistance. The 59-year-old husband Zulkifli bin Chin has retired. The couple have 2 children. The 31-year-old son is married and has one son. He works as a human resources supervisor in a cosmetics factory with a basic salary of RM2,800. His wife is a housewife.

The 27-year-old daughter is still studying for a master's degree in research, and there is still one year to graduate. She is supported by her parents' provident fund. Since her mother fell ill, she applied to the school for online classes at home and took care of her mother together with her father.

After reviewing the case, One Hope Charity noted that the family could not afford. Therefore, One Hope Charity decided to assist in raising the remaining RM30,000. Fatimah Wati’s family agreed to fully authorise One Hope Charity to take charge of the fundraising and collect donations from well-wishers on their behalf.
