“He is now two weeks old. The doctor said he must have surgery before he is three weeks old. Please save him. The child has a strong willpower. Please give him a chance to continue to survive.”

Muhammad Zuhdi Bin Zahari from Sik District, Kedah, became cyanotic due to hypoxia at birth. The doctor rushed him to the intensive care unit for rescue. An examination showed that the baby boy had a severe heart defect and needed surgery before three weeks old. Otherwise, his life might be at stake.

The baby boy had strong willpower and struggled hard to survive. However, the parents were helpless as they could not afford the substantial surgical expenses. Hence, they approached One Hope Charity for help, hoping to raise RM90,000 for the surgery.

【The baby needs to undergo surgery before he is three weeks old as the risk will be higher as his age increases, posing a threat to the little life】

His pregnant mother had bleeding and was expected to give birth at any time. Although the cervix was opened for 6cm, the fetal fluid did not rupture. As the heartbeat of the fetus in the mother’s womb weakened, the doctor prepared for an emergency delivery. The baby, who was born full-term, cried after birth, but the oxygen content in his body dropped sharply. The doctor rushed the newborn to the intensive care unit, and the baby relied on oxygen assistance to survive.

The doctor diagnosed the baby with transposition of the great arteries (TGA), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and atrial septal defect (ASP ). He needed an urgent arterial switch operation (ASO).

The doctor informed the parents that their baby boy needed to undergo surgery before he was three weeks old. Otherwise, the risk will become higher as he grows, and he may not even survive. However, the surgery costs RM90,000.

The baby’s 27-year-old father, Zahari Bin Ismail, is a temporary teacher with an income of about RM1,200. His 24-year-old mother, Madihah Bt Kamel, is a housewife. The couple has another three-year-old daughter. They cannot afford their son’s surgical expenses.

After reviewing the case, One Hope Charity decided to assist the baby boy in raising the RM90,000 surgical fees he needed so that he could undergo surgery as soon as possible. His parents agreed to fully authorise One Hope Charity to take charge of the fundraising and collect donations from the well-wishers on their behalf.
