When he was healthy, he often went to his durian orchard, collected durians and sold them to his customers. He was full of energy when he talked about durian. However, for the past six months, he was like a fish short of water, coughing and panting even when sitting and losing his appetite.

Seng Ah Kau from Butterworth was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Regurgitation, affecting his heart function and oxygen supply. The risk of stroke will increase if he does not undergo surgery. His kidneys might fail, and he might need dialysis. The elderly man cannot afford the surgery, and his only daughter needs to care for her own family and her ill parents. She is exhausted. Therefore, the family is seeking the help of RM80,000 to pay for the surgery.

【As he had a leaky heart valve, he needed surgery to replace one of his heart valves with an artificial valve, and the other valve needed repair】

73-year-old Ah Kau started to suffer from frequent shortness of breath three years ago. His family brought him to a clinic for treatment, and a preliminary examination showed he had heart problems. The doctor referred him to a general hospital for a thorough check, and he was then diagnosed with a leaky heart valve. He has been relying on medication to control his condition.

About half a year ago, his shortness of breath worsened, and he often had a cough and pain in his heart. He was admitted to the hospital twice to thrice a month, but the hospital could only arrange for him to meet with the heart specialist in October.

His heart problem affected the body fluid drainage, resulting in pulmonary oedema. If he does not receive immediate treatment, his kidneys might fail, and he needs kidney dialysis. The risk of him getting a stroke is also six times higher than a healthy person. Looking at the dangers, his family is worried and helpless.

In June, the elderly man felt unwell, so he went to a specialist hospital under the recommendation of a doctor friend. The doctor at the specialist hospital told him to undergo surgery immediately to replace his heart valve and repair his other heart valve. The surgery costs RM80,000.

Ah Kau was a durian seller before he fell ill. His 71-year-old wife, Lee Cheng Kee, had a fall, and the doctor implanted an iron plate in her thigh. He needs a walker and cannot care for herself. If Ah Kau suffers a stroke, their only daughter will be in trouble.

The elderly couple relies on their 46-year-old daughter, a teacher, to pay for their expenses. The married daughter has two children, so she can only afford RM5,000. They seek help for the remaining RM80,000 in surgical costs.

The family agreed to fully authorise One Hope Charity to take charge of the fundraising and collect donations from the well-wisher on their behalf. Call One Hope Charity’s hotline at 04-539 9212, 016-419 2192, 019-232 2192 or 018-911 4192 if you have questions.
