Urgent Fundraising – Wong Yoke Kuan (Heart Disease)

URGENT

100%

Wong Yoke Kuan, a single mother, noticed that her health deteriorated after the passing of her mother about two years ago. She sometimes felt tired, even doing some simple house chores. Yoke Kuan thought it happened because she missed her mother too much and didn’t take the matter seriously. She also didn’t go for a health check or consult a doctor. However, she was hospitalised after falling ill at the end of last year. Then she remembered that her body had already sent out some signals to her.

Yoke Kuan has lived in Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh since she was young. After her divorce, she took her son back to her hometown to live with her relatives. Yoke Kuan has been healthy since she was a child, and her parents have never mentioned that she has a heart problem. She also never knew anyone in her family with a heart problem. She used to go hiking with her friends sometimes, jogging, and doing other simple exercises, but she never felt uncomfortable. Therefore, the sudden news caught her off guard.

【She had unbearable abdominal pain, and it was revealed that she had a heart disease. The kindergarten assistant teacher and her son cannot afford the substantial surgical expenses】

One day in November last year, she suddenly felt abdominal pain and vomited. Her relatives rushed her to the hospital. The doctor examined her abdomen and found no abnormalities but heart a heart murmur. Therefore, the doctor conducted a full-body check-up. After several in-depth tests, the doctor confirmed that she had an atrial septal defect (ASD), which is a congenital heart problem. Considering her health condition, the doctor scheduled her surgery in mid-March, hoping to seal the hole in her heart as soon as possible.

Yoke Kuan is a kindergarten assistant teacher who helps take care of children aged three to four. She earns about RM1,300 a month. As her ex-husband had not paid alimony for many years, she had no choice but to work hard and earn money to support her family. Her son, who was still studying in high school, could not see his mother working hard to help him, so he decided to drop out of school and go to work. And now, her 18-year-old son is looking for a stable job. Earlier, he worked in a mobile phone shop and an audio equipment store to reduce the family’s financial burden and bear his daily expenses.

Yoke Kuan is grateful to have a caring son. However, the incomes of the mother and son are only enough to cover their basic expenses, such as living expenses, utility, and telephone bills. They also pay some household expenses for relatives living with them in the ancestral house. And now, she needs urgent surgery, but she cannot afford the substantial surgical expenses. She is also apprehensive about the living expenses required during her recovery. The mother and son had no solution. Hence, they turned to One Hope Charity for assistance.

After reviewing the case following a home visit, One Hope Charity decided to assist them in raising the RM38,000 they needed so that Yoke Kuan could undergo surgery as soon as possible. One Hope Charity also hoped she could rest and recuperate after the surgery without worrying too much about their livelihood. Yoke Kuan and her family agreed to fully authorise One Hope Charity to take charge of the fundraising and collect donations from well-wishers on their behalf.
