During the year-end and New Year holidays, which are peak seasons for travel abroad, many people enjoy vacations. However, amidst this, there are still many low-income vulnerable groups facing hardships. The number of people seeking assistance continues to rise. Over the past three months, One Hope Charity has provided assistance in 114 cases, totaling RM210,554 in aid funds. These cases do not include fundraising initiatives.

In December of last year, we assisted in 34 cases, totaling RM 78,062 in aid. The assistance covered hearing aids, low-cost surgeries, knee joint injections, eye injections, physiotherapy, and medical equipment such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, and BIPAP machines.

In January 2024, we assisted in 45 cases, totaling RM 84,480 in aid. In February, we assisted in 35 cases, totaling RM 48,012 in aid.

These figures do not include fundraising cases. Generally, for cases involving amounts below RM 20,000, we utilize donations from the public to help alleviate immediate needs, hoping that the beneficiaries can recover soon and be free from illness.

Below are some cases from the assistance report:

Yeap Ean Gim, a 68-year-old Chinese man, works as a lorry and tour bus driver. He experienced knee pain, and underwent total knee replacement surgery on his left knee last year. His right knee also requires surgery, with the government providing assistance for part of the surgical costs. One Hope Charity provided assistance for the remaining balance of RM 4,500 for the surgery to enable him to resume his daily activities post-surgery.

Kaviwaarman A/L Rajandran, a 20-year-old Indian youth, was involved in a car accident while driving his sister to work. Both suffered injuries to their hands and feet. His sister received assistance for a 4-month sick leave from a social welfare department. Kaviwaarman suffered a fractured left wrist, which did not heal after one month of casting. He requires surgery involving the insertion of a distal radius locking plate to enable proper healing. Due to financial constraints, both he and his sister are unable to afford the RM2,200 equipment fee required for his treatment.

Muhammad Firdaus Bin Rosli, a 30-year-old man with hereditary hypertension and diabetes, works as an instructor at a driving school. He contracted COVID-19 for the first time in May last year. Due to his low blood oxygen levels (below 60%), he was hospitalized for a week before being discharged. However, he was readmitted due to recurrent breathlessness after discharge, requiring respiratory assistance. Doctors recommended the use of a BIPAP ventilator during sleep to aid breathing. One Hope Charity provided partial assistance for the equipment costs.

Tan Hang Leng, a 64-year-old mechanical maintenance worker, began experiencing frequent knee pain in both knees 2 to 3 months ago. After medical consultation and tests, doctors recommended knee injection therapy for him. Due to financial constraints, he sought assistance for the RM 1,900 treatment fee.
