A 30-year-old Chinese woman suffered from encephalitis last year. After waking up from the treatment, she lost self-care ability and memory. In addition to needing professional care for 24 hours, she also needs special milk powder to supplement nutrition for a long time. ONE HOPE CHARITY allocated RM12,675 from the "Emergency Medical Reserve Fund" to subsidize her special milk powder.

Choo Huey Ying, from Ayer Itam, Penang, was discovered unconscious by her family in the morning of August 2022 and was rushed to the hospital. Her condition was diagnosed as encephalitis by the doctor. She regained consciousness after the doctor treated her, but she had lost her memory and couldn't care for herself, so she had to lie on the bed for a long time.

After two months of treatment and observation in the hospital, she was allowed to discharge from hospital. Since her parents were old, she was sent to a nursing home to be taken care of by someone. Huey Ying’s aunt and uncle sponsored her nursing home fee and physical therapy.

Huey Ying has lost her memory, her head shakes frequently, she can't care for herself, and she can't swallow food. Because the doctor advised her to drink special milk powder, she can only be fed milk powder through a catheter.

Huey Ying has a learning disability. She worked as a volunteer in an activity centre for the disabled after graduation. The Welfare Department provided her with RM450 in monthly assistance.

Her father, a former gold worker, suffered from colorectal cancer in 2019, and unfortunately passed away on January 24 this year after the cancer relapsed last year; The mother used to work as a packaging employee in the factory. Because she often took leave to take care of her daughter, she was eventually asked to leave by the boss.

Last year, the mother applied to One Hope Charity for special milk powder for her daughter. Following home visits and review, One Hope Charity also continued to provide Huiying with special milk powder for one and a half years last year.
