【Medical Items Assistance – Colostomy bag, Diapers and Milk Powder】A 5-year-old boy had cloacal exstrophy at birth, requiring the use of colostomy bags for long-term. ONE HOPE CHARITY assisted by providing colostomy bags, diapers and milk powder to alleviate the financial burden on the family.

The adorable and sensible 5-year-old boy had cloacal exstrophy, leading to permanent colostomy. After undergoing a colostomy surgery, he requires the long-term use of colostomy bags, adding to the financial burden on his family. One Hope Charity allocated RM13,000 from the “Emergency Medical Reserve Fund” to assist him with  colostomy bags, diapers, and milk powder for a period of one and a half years.

A Chinese boy from Penang Island, has suffered from cloacal exstrophy since birth, preventing normal bowel movements. Doctor immediately performed a colostomy surgery to allow the elimination of waste or urine. He requires daily changes of the colostomy bag and antibiotic intake to prevent bacterial infection. Despite using the colostomy bag, he still needs to use diapers daily.

He like other children his age, intellectually gifted. He started attending a nearby kindergarten last year, experiencing the normal life typical for his age without being affected by his own health condition.

The father was originally an air conditioning technician, but due to the child’s fluctuating health before the age of 2, requires him to take leaves for frequent hospital visits, he is currently working in the funeral industry with an unstable income. The mother is a housewife, taking care of the boy and their 4-year-old daughter at home. As a result, the household expenses, including rent for the flat and car loan, are solely borne by the father.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, One Hope Charity sent representatives to conduct a home visit. The board of directors decided to assist him in colostomy bags, diapers and milk powder, aiming to alleviate the burden on the father.
