A 26-year-old Chinese youth from Georgetown, Penang, Henry Tan Chun Hean diagnosed with a heart disease at birth, underwent surgery at the age of 2. Currently, doctor advise another surgery, but due to sudden heart failure, it is cancelled and hospitalization is required for treatment. One Hope Charity allocated RM5,272.50 from the “Emergency Medical Reserve Fund” for his treatment. His condition is now stable and resting at home.

Henry was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect and a connected pulmonary valve at birth. Though not life-threatening, he underwent heart septal repair and pulmonary valve surgery at the age of 2 due to frequent cyanosis. He undergoes regular check-ups at the hospital every four years.

Two years ago, when he sought for medical treatment at the general hospital due to frequent fevers, the doctor informed him that he should have undergone pulmonary valve replacement surgery every 10 to 15 years. However, he hasn’t advised to had any further heart surgeries since the first operation, leading to the current enlargement of his heart and feel tired easily. If he doesn’t undergo surgery again, it will result in a gradual decline in his heart function.

He was originally scheduled for pulmonary valve replacement surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in December of last year. Unexpectedly, he experienced heart failure the day before the scheduled surgery and couldn’t undergo the procedure. Instead, he had to be hospitalized for treatment. After deducting the government subsidies, the remaining cost of hospital treatment amounted to RM5,272.50. ONE HOPE CHARITY used RM5,272.50 from the “Emergency Medical Reserve Fund” to pay for his hospital treatment.

Thanks to the enthusiastic donations from the general public, ONE HOPE CHARITY is able to provide  emergency assistance in critical moments.
