【Medical Assistance-Total Hip Replacement】A temple laborer, who suffered hip joint damage in both legs, recently underwent surgery on his left leg with the assistance of Hospital Welfare Department. One Hope Charity is supporting his right leg surgery in the hope that, after the operation, he can regain the ability to work and support himself.

A 54-year-old single man, Khoo Thiam Peck, has experienced hip joint damage in both of his legs. His left leg has already undergone surgery with assistance from the Department of Welfare at a hospital. However, he is still unable to move freely and has sought help from One Hope Charity. One Hope Charity has allocated RM9,800 from the "Emergency Medical Fund" to enable him to undergo a full hip joint replacement surgery on his right leg.

Khoo Thiam Peck, who hails from Penang Island, used to work as a laborer in Penang's Kuan Yin Temple and supported himself with meager earnings. His legs frequently suffered from pain, and there were times when he experienced such severe pain that he had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. Examinations revealed that both of his hip joints were damaged and required surgical removal and replacement with artificial hip joints.

His left leg has already undergone surgery with the assistance of the Penang Government Hospital Welfare Department. However, post-surgery, he still faces mobility issues and pain in his right leg.

After the Chinese New Year this year, Khoo Thiam Peck stopped working. He hopes to complete the surgery on his right leg as soon as possible so that he can return to work and support himself financially.

Following a home visit and review, One Hope Charity approved the provision of components for a full hip joint replacement surgery on his right leg, with the hope that he will be able to undergo the surgery and recover to resume his daily life.

ONE HOPE CHARITY determined the surgery fee needed for assistance. We did not start fundraising because the surgery fee was less than RM20,000. Instead, it made good use of the usual well-meaning donations to assist Khoo Thiam Peck.
