Due to the love and generosity of humanity, 26-year-old Andrea Pui Jia Hui has finally ushered in a new chapter in her life. Her successful kidney transplant surgery has brought her a new lease on life.

Andrea, a cheerful lady from Penang who has been blind since childhood, was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2008. She started undergoing dialysis in 2009. Unfortunately, none of her family members' kidneys matched hers for donation. Consequently, her name was placed on the waiting list for a kidney transplant.

After a 13-year-long wait, Andrea finally received a kidney transplant. She expresses gratitude not only to the donor's family for consenting to the organ transplant but also to the dedicated medical team for their efforts in the surgery and postoperative care. She is especially thankful to the wider community for providing financial assistance through this organization's platform, enabling her to undergo the kidney transplant at the right time and with the necessary support. This assistance has also alleviated the heavy financial burden on her family before and after the transplant.

【This story is not just an individual's life turning point but also an exemplary showcase of societal warmth and the spirit of helping others】

From a young age, Andrea Pui Jia Hui faced the challenge of blindness. However, when confronted with the harsh verdict of kidney failure, she did not succumb to life's blows. Instead, she chose to face it with determination, embarking on a 13-year journey of dialysis. Throughout this long wait, she held onto the desire for a new lease on life, eagerly anticipating each potential match.

In 2021, doctors informed her that her name had moved up the transplant waiting list, and she needed to be ready for a call at any time. From January to June 2023, she received eight calls, preparing for surgery, with three of them requiring her to travel from Penang to Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately, several last-minute setbacks occurred, including families refusing organ donation, leading to unsuccessful transplant attempts.

"I can understand the reluctance of the deceased's family to donate organs, and organ donation is not an easy decision. Besides the willingness of the deceased's family, various factors such as compatibility and the recipient's health are significant considerations. So, I view it with equanimity; being selected is already a blessing."

Finally, on July 3rd of this year, while at work, she received a hospital notification. Accompanied by her mother, she rushed from Penang to Selayang Hospital. Upon arrival, nearing midnight, she underwent pre-transplant examinations, fortunately passing all tests.

Around 7:00 PM on July 4th, Andrea was wheeled into the operating room. The surgery took five hours, and she successfully navigated the critical postoperative period. For her, being chosen was fortunate, and the success of the surgery brought immense joy.

During the recovery process, she faced various challenges, including diarrhea caused by anti-rejection medications. However, her optimistic attitude and strong will helped her overcome everything.

"Some people need temporary dialysis after transplantation, but I am fortunate. Although the transplanted kidney works 'slowly,' I don't need dialysis, allowing the kidney to gradually recover its function. Currently, my resistance is low, and besides taking anti-rejection drugs, I also need antibiotics."

On July 17th, Andrea was discharged. Despite this, she still needs to report to the hospital and undergo tests three days a week. Additionally, she receives guidance from pharmacists and nutritionists on how to care for her health and kidneys through diet.

【Thank you all for giving me a rebirth】

Andrea Pui Jia Hui once faced despair due to blindness and endured the pain of dialysis. Now, she stands at the peak of life. She deeply understands her fortune – not only the care of her family but also the love, blessings, and support from people all around.

"Throughout this decade-long journey of dialysis, witnessing the unfortunate situations of many fellow patients, I feel content that, despite my challenges, I can still pursue education and live well, thanks to the love of my family and the caring support from people far and near."

Today, Andrea stands anew at the starting point of life. Her goal is not only to maintain her new kidney but also to pave a hopeful path to recovery through her efforts and perseverance.

Her story is a hymn to the tenacity of life and a call for societal warmth. May she continue to be resilient and script even more brilliant chapters for her life.
