A 62-year-old single man suffered two strokes within six months, rendering him unable to care for himself and reliant on a wheelchair for mobility. His daily living expenses and medical bills are being covered by his friends. Our foundation is providing assistance by supplying powdered milk and diapers to alleviate the burden on his friends.

Ang Boon Howa from Bukit Mertajam, Penang was diagnosed by doctor at the end of 2021 to have suffered a stroke due to  hypertension. After three days  of observation in the hospital, he was allowed to be discharged. However, weakness on the right side of his body caused slow walking. Six months later, he had another stroke recurrence, resulting in slurred speech and the need for a wheelchair mobility. As a result, he needs to use diapers daily, and his friend take him to a Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic weekly for treatment to facilitate his speedy recovery.

He used to work in seafood restaurants both in Singapore and Kelantan, as well as transitioning to the audio industry in Kuala Kurau. He met his friend while working at the seafood restaurant in Kelantan, and they began renting the current terrace house together four years ago, splitting the rent equally. Unexpectedly, he could no longer work after suffering the stroke, caused his friend had to bear the full burden of the rent from then on.

His friend is currently working as a helper in a seafood restaurant, earning a monthly salary of RM1500, with meals provided by the employer. However, she has to pay a monthly rent of RM550 and cover the expenses for the patient’s meals and daily needs, which adds to her financial burden.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, One Hope Charity sent representatives to conduct a home visit. The board of directors decided to provide assistance with milk powder and diapers, helping the friend alleviate her financial burden.
