A 33-year-old Indian man sustained severe injuries after encountered a car accident on his way home after playing sports with his friends and was admitted to hospital for two months. He was paralyzed in bed upon discharge, unconscious and the bones between his left shoulder had also been displaced.

Sharvin Rao A/L Raja from Butterworth, Penang, was a security guard at a shopping complex. After the car accident, he is unable to take care of himself and can’t swallow food. Now he can only be fed milk powder through a catheter. Due to his condition, he holds an OKU card and receives financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare. His family also helped him to apply a 6-month supply of special milk powder from the department, and the assistance was ended on April 2023.

Sharvin requires a nurse to come to his home for catheter replacement every three weeks, needs to undergoes physical therapy every two days, and needs ambulance service to send him follow-up at the neurology and otolaryngology departments of the hospital every two months. They have to self-pay all these expenses.

His father was retired and his mother is a housewife. His sister who works as a kindergarten teacher has her own financial responsibilities. The younger brother, who lives in Johor also has his own family burdens, but he will help with paying for the ambulance service fees.

Upon receiving the plea for help, One Hope Charity sent representatives to visit him, conducted an assessment and approved the provision of special milk powder.
