A 69-year-old man diagnosed with glottic laryngeal cancer, facing complications from polyps around the tracheostomy tube, rendering him unable to speak or eat normally after surgery, received assistance from One Hope Charity in the form of milk powder.

Tan Beng Hai, a 69-year-old single man from Kuala Lumpur, was diagnosed with glottic laryngeal cancer in 2010. He underwent a complete laryngectomy and thyroidectomy, followed by two months of radiotherapy. He requires annual tube replacements at the hospital, but due to pandemic-related delays, polyps developed around his tracheostomy tube, causing inflammation and enlarging the stoma, necessitating closure and reduction.

To address this, doctors performed a nasogastric tube insertion and tracheostomy tube replacement. Due to the resulting wounds, he is currently reliant on milk powder for nutritional support until further instructions from the medical team. Unable to work due to speech impairment and health issues, he lives with his elderly mother in a flat, relying on monthly assistance from the welfare department and contributions from family.

ONE HOPE CHARITY conducted a home visit in response to Tan's application. The board, upon understanding the details, decided to provide the necessary milk powder assistance to help supplement his nutritional needs and alleviate the burden on his family.
