34-year-old Teoh Lay Peng, a resident of Bukit Mertajam, is in a coma due to bacterial infection after multiple surgeries. Her husband, Teo Boon Long, has been shuttling between the hospital and caring for his elderly stroke-stricken father-in-law and their two young children aged 7 and 3. Their finances have been depleted, and they are struggling to make ends meet.

"Wife, you have to get better quickly; the children can't be without you. I also want to keep this family intact. We are waiting for you to come back for the Chinese New Year!"

Teoh Lay Peng's condition has left her in a coma in the intensive care unit after multiple surgeries. Her husband has been taking care of their elderly stroke-stricken father-in-law and two young children, shuttling between Bukit Mertajam and the hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah, for nearly two weeks. They have depleted their savings to cover accommodation and meals, leaving them in dire financial straits. Now, with no money left, Teoh Lay Peng continues to fight for her life in the hospital, and her family, consisting of an elderly stroke survivor and two young children, is left helpless. One Hope Charity is providing financial aid and food aid to help them get through this difficult time, ensuring that the elderly and children do not go hungry.

Teo Boon Long, 33, originally from Johor, works as an air conditioner technician. He moved to Bukit Mertajam after marrying Teo Lay Peng. The couple has two children, aged 7 and 3, and they form a happy family of four.

Teoh Lay Peng's 70-year-old father, Teoh Ah Bah, suffered a stroke in 2019, resulting in limited mobility. The couple has been taking care of the elderly father together, and Teoh Ah Bah has gradually regained the ability to take care of himself and walk.

In December of last year, Teoh Lay Peng experienced symptoms like yellowing skin and loss of appetite. After being admitted to the hospital, her heart briefly stopped beating. Despite the doctors' efforts to resuscitate her, she survived. However, she developed liver abscesses and infections in various organs, leading to severe bleeding in the stomach.

After two weeks in the hospital, doctors recommended transferring her to the hospital in Alor Setar for further treatment. The doctors instructed Teo Boon Long to stay at the hospital as he might need to sign consent forms at any time.

Teo Boon Long had to drive with his mildly stroke-stricken father-in-law and two young children to Alor Setar Hospital. After temporarily settling in a hotel near the hospital and depleting their savings on accommodation and meals, he found himself unable to work. Life became more challenging for the family.

Teoh Lay Peng's husband mentioned that a week before being admitted to the hospital, her entire body itched, and her feet bled. To prevent further bacterial infections, doctors recommended a tracheostomy for the patient. After the surgery, Teo Boon Long needs to stay in the hospital room to learn how to care for his wife, expecting to remain in the hospital for at least a month, and transferring the patient to another hospital is not allowed.

After receiving their application, One Hope Charity has provided temporary financial aid and food assistance to the family of five, considering their current situation. Further assistance will depend on their evolving circumstances.
