The COVID-19 pandemic continues to loom at large, leaving many to have their paychecks cut, laid off and facing economically-related issues at home, but when the family have to face with problems such as family members getting sick, in need of medical equipment and starvation, it would have put any families in deep trouble.

For the past four months between October 2020 and January 2021, One Hope Charity has distributed a total of RM174,604.57 to aid 85 families. The total fund does not include emergency fund-raising projects, but it is funded by donations received from the general public.

In October 2020, One Hope Charity approved to provide aid with a total fund of RM59,181.87 distributed. The funds covered the payment for acupuncture, dialysis, cataract surgery, hearing aids and other forms of surgeries and treatment fee of less than RM20,000.

In November 2020, with a total fund of RM27,500.70 has been distributed. The majority of the funds were used for food and supplies, while the remaining were used for medical aid, such as hearing aids, stroke surgery fees, wheelchairs and orthopedic vests for scoliosis.

In December 2020, distributed RM67,882.00 worth of funds, which was used for providing food supplies and medical uses such as prosthetic limbs, kidney dialysis fees, cancer patient treatment fees, breathing aids, knee spacer, cataract surgery and so on.

In January 2021, One Hope Charity provided which included raising RM20,040.00 for the medical and acupuncture fee, providing food items, baby products and more.

These aids generally do not include in the fundraising events, but it is through the donation and support from the general public, which could help more applicants receive the aid they urgently needed. We would like to thank you all for the support and providing the needy families the medical treatment and food supply aid they needed.

【Case 1: A teenage girl’s body was paralysed, and One Hope Charity sponsored special milk formula and diapers】

Nur Atikah binti Mohd Salim, 29, used to work in a well-known brand health care chain store and was preparing to marry her fiance in a month’s time. Unexpectedly on Sept 9 last year, she suddenly fainted due to weakness and her family immediately admitted her to the hospital. After 48 days of medical observation, she was diagnosed that her nervous system was damaged and her body was paralysed till this day.

After Atikah was discharged, she was under her mother’s care. Currently, she can only be fed with milk through a catheter to maintain her nutrition and her physical wellbeing, as well as the need to change three adult diapers daily. The patient is their sole child and while they are waiting for government agencies to intervene and provide assistance, One Hope Charity has sponsored a special milk powder formula and the needed adult diapers.

【Case 2: Two women suffering from sleep apnea. The association as sponsored CPAP MACHINE each】

In December 2020, One Hope Charity received a referral from a hospital. Two women, aged 54 and 52 respectively, suffered from sleep apnea and required breathing aid to help them fall asleep, otherwise they would face the risk of suffocation during sleep. The Association has sponsored two CPAP MACHINE so that two women could sleep peacefully at night.

【Case 3: One Hope Charity subsidised medical fee for 14-year-old undergoing dialysis】

Vikeneshwaran A/L Udhavamoorthy, 17, was already diagnosed with kidney problems when he was still in his mother’s womb. He was born in the Penang General Hospital and was discharged after a month of medical examination. Later, he would return to the hospital every three month and was given medication to control his condition.

When he was 14-year-old, he started to go through peritoneal dialysis. To date, he needs to undergo dialysis once every 5 hours at home. The fluid used for dialysis as well as the medical cloths were provided by the government every month, but he still needs to bear the monthly medical expenses for disinfectants, gauze and antipruritic ointment, as well as Nepro milk for his physical wellbeing.

Vikeneshwaran, who’s currently studying in Form 5, had shown signs of pain, dizziness, diarrhea and fatigue. His mother has applied sick leave for her son. The association has already subsidised six months worth of medical expenses.

【Case 4: One Hope Charity settled acupuncture fee for an elder father suffering from bone spurs】

A 77-year-old Chinese was diagnosed with bone spurs and compressed nerves in September last year. However there is a high risk for surgery. The man could not walk on its own and must rely on a wheelchair.

The old man had to rely on his eldest son to take care of him, while the youngest son suffered from muscular sclerosis and was unable to work. The family of three lives in a flat. The Association has borne the payment for acupuncture fee and two treatment sessions for both the father and the youngest son, in hopes they could move freely once again.
