A full-term infant was discharged from the hospital two days after birth. However, the doctor discovered respiratory issues during a follow-up appointment, and admitted her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for oxygen assistance. The parents were informed that they needed to have a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine at home for the infant to be discharged. One Hope Charity provided assistance in obtaining a CPAP machine.

The 2-month-old infant, Daveenisha A/P Letchumanan, from Perai, Penang, was brought to the government health clinic for a follow-up appointment one week after birth. The doctor found rapid breathing and a murmur in her heart and was referred to the hospital for further examination and treatment. After examination, the doctor diagnosed Daveenisha with clinically severe laryngomalacia newborn. She was transferred to the ICU for oxygen assistance and underwent surgery to remove excess tissue from her throat on December 26th.

She is currently drinking milk through feeding tube and her parents have been informed by the doctor that her respiratory tract is very soft. It is necessary for the family to have a CPAP machine at home in order to be discharged. Otherwise, it will lead to breathing difficulties for the baby and threaten her life. Her 36-year-old father is a contract forklift driver, earning a monthly salary of RM1500, which can reach RM2000 with overtime.

The 36-year-old mother is a homemaker, taking care  of a 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son at home. The parents also need to pay a monthly rent of RM500 for their flat and are completely unable to afford the cost of a CPAP machine. Hence, the parents are applying to One Hope Charity for assistance.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, One Hope Charity sent representatives to conduct a home visit. The board of directors decided to assist her with a CPAP machine so that she could return home to reunite with her family as soon as possible.
