A 44-year-old man was urgently taken to the hospital for surgery after collapsed in the office. Upon discharge, he was confined to bed, prompting his wife to resign from her job to care for him. This led to financial strain on the family, One Hope Charity assisted in the form of food supplies, diapers and wound cleaning items.

Hanrry Goh Bin Abas, a 44-year-old man from Tenom, Sabah, moved to Penang with his wife over 20 years ago to seek a livelihood. He started a new job as a lorry driver in mid-September last year. Unexpectedly, he suddenly collapsed shortly after arriving at the office on October 16th. His colleague contacted his family and rushed him to the hospital for emergency treatment. After an examination, doctor diagnosed him with a stroke and immediately performed surgery to remove the blood clot in his brain.

He was discharged and allowed to return home for recuperation on October 31st, but two weeks later, he was readmitted to the hospital for a week due to a urinary tract infection. Upon his second discharge, he could only lie in bed, needs to consume milk daily to obtain the necessary nutrition. His 43-year-old wife, who used to work as a factory operator, had to quit her job to become a full-time caregiver for her husband and their son, who was injured in the accident, causing the family to lose their source of income forthwith.

The couple has four children. Their 23-year-old daughter is married; 18-year-old son fractured his right leg in a car accident in August 2022, underwent two surgeries but still unable to recover fully, and now relies on crutches to walk; 12-year-old son is studying in a Chinese primary school; 5-year-old son will be attending kindergarten next year.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, One Hope Charity sent representatives to conduct a home visit. The board of directors decided to provide assistance with food supplies, diapers and wound cleaning items to help them through this difficult time.
