While still in her mother's womb, Joy Lim Ka En was diagnosed with health issues. Born prematurely, she experienced difficulty breathing and did not cry, leaving her parents distressed. Thankfully, she received timely treatment. Upon examination, doctors diagnosed her with a syndrome accompanied by multi-level upper airway obstruction.

Due to her various health issues, Joy has been receiving treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) since birth and has been unable to go home with her parents to meet her siblings. She suffers from severe gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and requires tube feeding; in addition, due to airway narrowing, she requires machine-assisted breathing following a tracheostomy.

Although her condition has stabilized multiple times, recurrent lung infections have forced her to remain hospitalized for treatment. However, with timely intervention, Joy has grown to nine months old, her weight has gradually increased, and her health has significantly improved, leading to her doctor's approval for discharge. The family relies solely on the income of her father, Lim Phui Sim (45 years old), to support their household expenses, which includes five members. They are unable to afford the medical supplies required for Joy after her discharge.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, One Hope Charity has conducted a home visit and, following assessment, has decided to provide aid to Joy for one year, covering the cost of her tracheal tube, nasogastric tube, and feeding bags, ensuring stable breathing even at home.
