The ice cream vendor was in pain in both knees and struggled to walk. ONE HOPE CHARITY funded his knee replacement surgery on both feet, allowing him to live independently after the procedure.

Yeang Ah Kong (59), from Penang, works as an ice cream vendor. The pain in both feet and knees, particularly the right knee, makes walking difficult. He was forced to stop working and seek treatment. He had previously received three knee injections, but the pain persisted, so the doctor eventually recommended knee replacement surgery.

His daily earnings vary, but on weekends, he can earn up to RM100. He lives alone in a wooden house and must pay RM200 in rent each month.

In August of last year, he began to feel pain in his right knee, which gradually spread to his left knee and eventually affected his ability to work.

He couldn't keep selling ice cream, his relationship with his siblings was strained, and he had no choice but to approach the public for assistance. Fortunately, he received assistance from a social worker. He not only donated RM300 per month for his living expenses, but he also assisted him with hospital examinations.

Both knees are still painful because three knee injections did not improve his condition. As a result, the social worker took him to the hospital for testing, and the doctor advised him to have Total Knee Replacement surgery, which would cost RM60,000.

In the case of the RM50,000 from the hospital's welfare department, Ah Kong still owes RM10,000 for the surgery fee. He will also require postoperative physical therapy and a stay in a nursing home.

Following home visits, ONE HOPE CHARITY decided to lend a helping hand by subsidizing the total knee replacement surgery fee he still owed to alleviate his financial burden. He is recovering in a nursing home after the surgery.

Any assistance less than RM20,000 will not be used to raise funds, but will instead be provided through the usual donations of well-wishers.
