9-year-old Yuvaraj A/L Baskaran from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, was diagnosed with hearing problems since birth and began wearing hearing aids at the age of 3 months. Recently, the hearing aids he was using could no longer be repaired. He received assistance from One Hope Charity with a new pair of hearing aids.

According to the parents, everything was normal during pregnancy. Until the eight-month prenatal check-up, the mother was informed by the doctor that the fetus would have multiple defects after birth, but the doctor did not provide detailed explanations. The boy was diagnosed with severe to profound bilateral hearing loss shortly after birth, and the doctor fitted  him with temporary hearing aids when he was three months old. He also has a condition of congenital hand deformity, requiring regular follow-up at the general hospital’s departments of otolaryngology, orthopedics and ophthalmology.

Yuvaraj is the only son in the family , attending the special education class of a mainstream school in Standard 3. Currently, he can only speak simple words and can also hold a pen to write. His father works as a technician in a company, while his mother is a homemaker, taking care of the boy at home and responsible for transporting him to and from school. The hearing aid in the boy’s right ear was damaged in July last year and cannot be repaired. Therefore, a new pair of hearing aids is needed. However, his father can’t afford the cost of the hearing aids, so he seeks assistance from One Hope Charity.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, One Hope Charity sent representatives to conduct a home visit. The board of directors decided to assist him with a pair of hearing aids to prevent any impact on his studies, enabling him to receive auditory knowledge smoothly during the teaching and learning process.
