A 75-year-old woman named Kok Ching Siang from George Town, Penang, and her husband are elderly and unable to work. They also need to take care of their 33-year-old niece who has intellectual disabilities. The couple originally had one son, but he passed away at the age of 30 due to liver disease.

The woman's husband continued to work after their son's death as a maintenance and tiling worker. However, due to his advanced age and severe uric acid problems, he retired five years ago. With a significantly reduced household income, the elderly couple relies on nearby kind-hearted individuals or organizations to provide them with meals.

According to the elderly woman, their niece had a difficult childhood and a disadvantaged background. Under the arrangement of the Welfare Department, the niece was entrusted to the care of the elderly woman and her husband, receiving a monthly assistance of RM400. Currently, the two elderly individuals and their niece live together in an apartment that their late son had purchased. The Malay stallholder downstairs, sympathizing with the niece's situation, allows her to help cut potatoes at the stall. This work earns her approximately RM100 to RM200 per month and provides her with meals as well.

Upon receiving their request for assistance, One Hope Charity conducted a home visit, and during a board meeting, it was decided to provide assistance in the form of dry rations to prevent them from going hungry. One Hope Charity has been providing them with food aid since 2021 and also supported the elderly woman's cataract surgery in both 2021 and 2022.
