Ever since the news story about a pregnant lady collecting rags to make a living went viral, the ONE HOPE CHARITY has raised RM113,500 in just 40 hours. After several arrangements with the pregnant lady, we will give priority to the donation received to pay for the husband’s cranial replacement surgery, physical therapy and other medical expenses in the hospital, while the remaining of the donations for the wife and children’s daily expenses.

The husband Chong Nai Fatt from Penang island, who suffered a stroke last December, was admitted to Hospital Pulau Pinang for craniotomy surgery. He is still resting in the hospital and expected to have craniotomy surgery in July.

According to his wife Magdalena Manalu after seeking consultation from a private specialist hospital, stroke patients would require physical therapy after the craniotomy and the treatment must be done within 3 to 6 months, otherwise the effects would turn adverse.

In hopes of her husband to be able to receive the best recovery, Magdalena Manalu has approached One Hope Charity and urged to give priority on funding all of his medical expenses first, such as the surgery and the physical therapy.

On the other hand, Magdalena had to watch over her two children, as well as another one waiting for delivery, hence she used her own funding received from donations to settle their daily expenses.

According to her, she said that she has three different bank accounts, and has received generous donations of supplies and funds, which could cover their daily expenses. She hoped that the donations received from the fundraising can be mainly used to cover her husband’s medical expenses.

In this regard, One Hope Charity will be waiting for the medical report from the private specialist hospital and the estimated expenses before directly paying to the hospital. All the donations will be channeled to the medical expenses and, if there were still extra money remaining, then the extra funds would be channeled to the family on a monthly basis.

The association would also lend the family an electric hospital bed and a commode chair to the family so that Magdalena can take care of her husband more easily.

Chong Nai Fatt, 44, suffered a stroke since December last year, while his Indonesian Wife Magdalena Manalu, 39, took their nine-year-old daughter and three-year-old son to collect odds and ends before selling off at a flea market.

One Hope Charity has received several messages and even had requested for the association to reach out to them for help. Therefore on Feb 6, the association volunteers, led by Batu Lanchang state assemblyman Ong Ah Teong, personally visited the family to understand more about their situation. After the family’s agreement and witnessing Ong Ah Teong and Chong Nai Fatt’s sister, the association would be arranging the fundraising.

The foundation launched a collection of donations on Feb 6, which later found that several people with good intentions have called to inquire about the irrelevant bank accounts. In addition, the foundation has also discovered that criminals fraudulently used photos of Chong’s family and intentionally tampered with the bank account. Therefore the fundraising was promptly decided to be terminated in order to prevent further donations to the wrong accounts.

Due to the public support received, the association has received RM113,500 worth of funding in less than 40 hours since the fundraising began. Hence, we want to thank everyone for their kind and generous donations, and the association promised that every bit of the donation received will be put into good faith and good use.

Thank you all once again for all your trust and support for us.
