To save his beloved wife, the husband donated a kidney. The surgery was a success, and the couple was discharged from the hospital!

"During my illness, all I wanted to do was cook a delicious meal for my family. Everything is fine now that I am recuperating. When I recover, I will undoubtedly prepare a feast for my husband and children."

Yap Yoke Kuen, who had been waiting for a kidney transplant for more than a year, finally completed the operation on December 20, 2022, and transplanted a kidney donated by her husband Leong Hoi Kwang. Because the couple could not afford the surgery fee, they received assistance from the general public through ONE HOPE CHARITY on October 2021 and successfully raised RM90,000 for medical expenses.

Yap Yoke Kuen, 43, is a lupus patient from Rawang, Selangor. She has managed her condition for 25 years by taking medication, but the condition has caused her kidneys to fail day by day, necessitating dialysis.

The 48-year-old husband, Leong Hoi Kwang, couldn't bear the pain of his wife's kidney dialysis, so he resolutely donated one of his kidneys and insisted on sharing his wife's joys and sorrows.

She was hesitant about the surgery due to the cost and other factors. Following the doctor's explanation and the couple's psychological construction, they decided to accept the doctor's advice and undergo a series of tests to confirm that the husband's kidney was suitable for donation.

Leong Hoi Kwang actively lost weight and quit smoking in order to donate healthy organs to his wife, demonstrating his unwavering love for his wife through actions.

【There was some bleeding during the surgery, but it was stopped safely】

After being released from the hospital, Yap Yoke Kuen revealed that the surgery took about 6 hours at the time, and there was some bleeding during the procedure, but she managed to get through it without incident. After about a week in the hospital, she was allowed to go home, whereas her able-bodied husband was discharged after only two days.

"My body is still a little weak right now, and I need time to recover. My husband is in good health as well. The doctor reminded me to monitor my blood pressure and red blood cell count."

She expects to be able to exercise once her body has stabilised following the transplant.

The couple has two children, ages 12 and 17. She also stated that she will need about a half-year to a year to recover her body before deciding whether or not to return to work. She must also return to the hospital on a regular basis for follow-up visits to confirm the health of her body and kidneys.

With the public's support and blessings, Yap Yoke Kuen entered the new year full of gratitude and hope for the future. ONE HOPE CHARITY also expresses gratitude to everyone for their assistance and blessings. Not only did the couple complete the kidney transplant successfully, but the family experienced renewed warmth and joy.
