CHOONG HUI MYN & CHIA JEAN YAO – Scoliosis

Two 13-year-old secondary students who are currently in puberty suffers from scoliosis. The teenage girl suffers from a 65-degree bend and the teenage boy suffers from a 60-degree bend. Surgery are required soonest possible as their condition will be worsening during the growing stage and also will start affecting the functionality of their organs.

Patient 1
Name: Choong Hui Myn
Age: 13
Diagnosis: 65-degree scoliosis

Last year, she complained to her family that she has backache. Her family realized that her spine is bend and brought her for X-ray and further checkup in hospital. Doctors then diagnosed her with 35-degree scoliosis.

She underwent 6 months of physiotherapy and her x-ray shows no sign of improvement but has worsened. The physiotherapist suggested her family to bring her to specialist for further checkup.

This year in January, her family has brought her to a specialist and the doctor confirmed that she suffers from 65-degree scoliosis. Her condition has deteriorated by 30-degree in just half a year.

As she is in puberty currently, surgery is required soonest possible or her condition will worsen faster. She requires RM 45,000 surgical fees.

Hui Myn is a form 1 student in a girl’s school in Penang. Her parents have divorced and she has been living with her grandmother and uncle’s family since she was 2 years old. His uncle Tan Thean Hock, 48, is a lorry driver and aunt, Leong Sook Ee, 41 is a housewife. She has 2 younger brothers who is 9 years old and 11 years old respectively. Both of them are currently staying in an orphanage.

Age: 13
Diagnosis: 60-degree scoliosis

Last year in December, he suffered from flu and went for checkup in hospital. The doctor who attended to him realize that his back is unusual and after checkup, the report shows that he suffers from 20-degree scoliosis.

In January this year, his family realize that his scoliosis became more obvious and the brought him to specialist center for checkup. The specialist confirmed that he suffers from 60-degree scoliosis and his condition is worsening as he is in puberty.

His shoulder is not on a same level, right shoulder has a bulge and his pelvic is tilted. He will be uncomfortable when he stands for a long period. This has caused him to lose confidence and lost interest in sports.

According to his condition, doctors suggested that he needs to undergo surgery soonest possible as if his condition deteriorates further, it will affect his organs. The surgical cost is RM 45,000.

He is from Teluk Intan, Perak and is currently a form 1 student. His father Chia Chee Tung, 50, is a coffee shop operator and mother Tan Pek Hew, 44, is a retail staff in a goldsmith shop. He has an elder brother.

Both of the are in need of a sum of RM 90,000 for surgery. We hope that the generous public can lend a helping hand by donating and help them in their surgical cost. Their surgery will be undergone in University Hospital, Kuala Lumpur.

Their family agrees to allow One Hope Charity & Welfare Berhad to take charge of the fund raising for their surgical cost and at the same time accumulating the donations from the generous public.
