“My brother died suddenly after an angina pectoris. I don’t want to follow in his footsteps. Please help me!”

65-year-old Ban Kok Chang from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, originally lived with his family in a flat unit on the fourth floor. However, he could not return home due to his heart condition. He could not climb the stairs to the fourth floor, so he was forced to leave his family and stay alone in his company’s warehouse.

Kok Chang went to the government hospital to see a doctor, but he only got a date for further examination at the end of the year, and he needed to wait for another date for treatment.

His chest pains have become more frequent recently, and he is worried he might experience a heart attack. He hoped the public could help him with a total of RM40,000 for his surgery.

【His 38-year-old son Ban Hong Keat has been a One Hope Charity volunteer for many years. During our Health Carnival this year, he came for duty and advised his father to receive an examination at the National Heart Institute’s mobile truck. After a check, the doctor suggested his father go for surgery as soon as possible】

One night in April this year, Kok Chang had chest pain, and he went to the emergency department of a government hospital for medical treatment. His blood pressure was high then, and his systolic blood pressure reached 225mmg. The doctor gave him medicine and sublingual tablets and arranged for a detailed examination at the end of the year.

Kok Chang is a hardworking man. Although he has reached retirement age, he continues to work. He works as a delivery man in a clothing shop, earning a weekly wage of RM350. In the past, although the family of four was not well-to-do, they lived happily on the fourth floor of a low-cost flat.

About a month ago, he had shortness of breath and tingling chest pain. As his house did not have an elevator, he had to climb the stairs of four floors whenever he went out and returned home. Due to his health condition, he chose to stay in his company’s warehouse. One day in the middle of the night, he had angina pectoris and went alone to the hospital for treatment. He was admitted for a night and waited for his scheduled further examination.

His 62-year-old wife, is a housewife. They have two children, who are both single. His 38-year-old son is a supervisor in an electrical appliance store with a salary of RM2,900. His 31-year-old daughter works in the same company as her father. She is a clerk, earning RM2,000 a month.

During the day, the father and daughter work in the same company so they can care for each other. At night, the children, who concern him a lot, will have dinner with him before leaving for home. Their greatest hope is that their father can be healthy and not need to live in the warehouse anymore so that the family can reunite.

After reviewing the case following a home visit, One Hope Charity decided to assist in raising the surgical expenses he needed. The patient and his family agreed to fully authorise One Hope Charity to take charge of the fundraising and collect donations from the well-wishers on their behalf.
