“Dad’s stomach hurts very much. Earlier, he had chills, fever and sweat, and he even hit his head against the wall when he was in great pain. We sent him to the hospital and discovered he had a small intestine rupture. He underwent emergency surgery to save his life.”

57-year-old Chong Teck Peng from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, had abdominal pain for a long time. After repeated tests, the doctor diagnosed him with Crohn’s Disease. He lost his appetite, and his body weight dropped by over 10kg. And now, Teck Peng needs monthly medication injections, which cost RM50,000 a year. He approached One Hope Charity for help.

During the evaluation of his application last week, Teck Peng suddenly fainted and was rushed to the hospital. The doctor found that his small intestine had ruptured. He underwent emergency surgery. If surgery was delayed, his life might be in danger. One Hope Charity immediately approved the case so that he could go for the life-saving surgery. One Hope Charity also decided to support his medication expenses for a year. The total cost for his surgery and medication is RM115,000.

【Teck Peng had abdominal pain and was diagnosed with gastric and acid reflux earlier. He went to seek treatments repeatedly, but his condition did not improve. He was later diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease after repeated tests】

Teck Peng has had stomach pains since the end of last year. He went to many clinics, but the doctors could not determine the root cause. His condition did not improve after taking medicine for a long time. Moreover, he lost his appetite and could not sleep at night. His family had to send him to a specialist hospital for examination. The medical bill then cost RM20,000, but the cause was still not found. After that, he was transferred to a government hospital for follow-up visits due to financial constraints.

After the doctor conducted a detailed examination, he diagnosed Teck Peng with Crohn’s Disease, and he needed to queue for a year for the medication. Teck Peng experiences severe abdominal pains daily, and his body weight dropped from over 50kg to 37kg. His family brought his medical report to a specialist hospital and was told that the medications cost RM50,000 yearly. His children could not afford it. Hence, they approached One Hope Charity for help.

Teck Peng runs a motorcycle painting shop in Bukit Mertajam with a monthly income of about RM2,800. Due to abdominal pains, he had to stop his business temporarily. His wife is a housewife. They have four children - their 34-year-old and 25-year-old daughters are married and not working, their 22-year-old daughter is a salesgirl, and their 20-year-old son works in a restaurant with a salary of RM1,600. They cannot afford the substantial medical expenses.

Teck Peng lives with his wife, his over-80-year-old mother and his youngest son in a kampung house. Their income can barely support their living expenses, but they spend all their savings on medical check-ups. They are unable to pay for his subsequent medical expenses.

After reviewing the case following a home visit, One Hope Charity decided to assist Teck Peng in raising his needed medical expenses. His family agreed to fully authorise One Hope Charity to take charge of the fundraising and collect donations from the well-wishers on their behalf.
