“I have not held my baby since birth, and I have not breastfed him. He will turn cyanotic as soon as he leaves the oxygen support. My only hope is that he can grow up safely and healthily, so I hope you can help me save this little life.”

Three-month-old baby boy Muhammad Uways Fairel Bin Muhammad Azrilsyam was born more than a month earlier than the expected due date, so the doctor admitted him to the hospital for observation. Four days later, the doctor brought terrible news to the parents – the baby boy had two holes in his heart and narrowed blood vessels. He needed surgery after some weight gain, so the newborn has relied on a breathing aid for the past three months.

And now, the baby’s body weight is suitable for heart surgery. However, the poor parents are worried and helpless as the RM100,000 in surgical fees is substantial for them. They hope to get assistance from the public.

【The mother’s amniotic fluid burst and bled excessively, and the baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks. His weight was only 1.42kg then. Four days after birth, his body became cyanotic, and the doctor diagnosed him with heart defects】

The newlywed couple from Serdang, Kedah, was looking forward to the arrival of their first child. Everything was usual during the mother’s pregnancy except her having cloudy urines, but it was not a big problem. Unexpectedly, in the 34th week of pregnancy, the mother’s amniotic fluid burst, and she suddenly bled excessively and was rushed to the hospital. She gave birth to the baby before the expected due date, and the baby was sent to the intensive care unit for observation.

The worried parents were hoping that their child would be fine. Unexpectedly, the doctor informed the parents that the baby turned cyanotic four days later and suspected he had a heart defect. The doctor later referred the baby to a general hospital for examination, and the result showed that the baby boy had a ventricular septal defect (VSD), atrial septal defect (ASD), bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), aortic arch hypoplasia with coarctation, patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and other severe heart defects. The baby has two holes in his heart and narrowed blood vessels, so he cannot be discharged from the hospital and needs to rely on oxygen aid.

Muhammad Uways Fairelwas 1.42kg when he was born. The doctor said the baby could undergo surgery when weighing 2.5kg. And now, he is 2.7kg and suitable for surgery. The doctor referred him to a specialist hospital, and the doctor said the baby’s condition was critical and needed surgery as soon as possible. Otherwise, his life might be at stake.

The baby’s 31- year-old father, Muhammad Azrilsyam Bin Mat Yaman, is a village labour with an unstable income. He makes about RM1,600 monthly. His 31-year-old mother, Fahayu Bt Sahidan, is a housewife. The baby is their first child.

The couple has no car, and they only own a motorcycle. They rode from Serdang in Kedah to Kulim Hospital and Penang Hospital to visit their child. They hope to give some moral support to their son. Although they are tired of travelling frequently, they hope their baby can recover and return home soon to reunite with them.

After reviewing the case, One Hope Charity decided to assist the baby boy in raising the medical expenses he needed.
